Anyone have a list of what coins will be sold on each auction date?

No. I've e-mailed S/B a couple of times for any information. No response.

Here's how I would do it.

I wouldn't be surprised if cataloguing is already done. Which is to say each coin has been imaged and both coin and series are being expertized away the storage location. The photographers will have been spending months in the various Pogue vaults. They may come every year to photo the newps and in that instance have little more to do. Cataloguing descriptions are available for many of these coins through previous provenance.

Then, based on an appraisal of market conditions (while I have idea what that means), decisions will be made as to what would be included in the next sale. Or two.

    Or not.

'Cause no one asked me and I really don't know how anyone can figure this out.

So maybe they've simply figured $2,000,000 in Pre-1800 Type, $3,000,000 in Bust Dollars, $4,000,000 Early Gold, $5,000,000 in this, $7,000,000 of that..... OK, that's enough. Might they wait until they see how the first sale does before they decide if the entire superb run of Seated Dimes goes? First sale is many months off. Perhaps the line-up is not complete. Perhaps it's already totally planned.

Nobody's ever done anything close to this in overall value, breadth, depth and quality.

Should be March or April when the first announcement is made.

    Ask SB at FUN.

The start of lot viewing might be sooner than one would expect.

I may have been a bidder on the 1838-C $5 gold that was in that collection which is graded MS-63 and the finest known. But I was not going to let my buying be driven by it because (1) I had no idea when that piece would be sold and (2) It will probably sell for "moon money." When you have no idea when something will be sold you can't plan you life and finances around it.

The 1838-C you purchased is nice enough to resell easily if you should choose to hunt the MS63 in Pogue.

I agree that it probably sells for crazy money though.

Having been "low balled" on some of the items I have tried to sell since I have retired as a dealer and become a "civilian," I'm not so sure that it would be that easy to re-sell that coin for the same money, let alone a profit, after the auction. You have to have the right connections and know who to work with to sell coins like that.

You can take this statement to the bank.

"YOU CAN OVERPAY FOR ANYTHING, not matter how rare or popular it might be.

Stacks had many coins from the first sale on preview today at FUN. Total shock and awe. They also had a brochure with the listings for the first sale. Will post later tonight.

Here's quick scans of the brochure handed out today. Hopefully better photos will be available online shortly. Sorry for the crooked scans in some cases...
I am not sure if this is the full listing for the May sale or if more can be added. I can not understate how incredible most of these looked in hand.

Today, I had a preview of all the Pogue coins being offered in the upcoming may auction. Stacks displayed the coins today at FUN and all do so tomorrow. When I get home I plan on posting my summary of these amazing coins. The may auction will include the half dimes from 1702 to 1837,draped bust dimes from 1796 to 1807,quarters from 1796 to 1838, halves from 1794 to 1807 and quarter Eagles from 1796 to 1808. These are the most amazing coins that I ever saw as a collection. Each group is fantastic! All coins were pcgs graded!

I heard that pcgs coin facts will be including the true view pictures in the very near future,

Stacks and pcgs created a special label for the coins indicating Pogue collection and provenances. Stacks Are doing a fantastic job showcasing this amazing collection for everyone to enjoy!

Just looking at this brochure - Holy S*&t!

Had always heard that the Pogues put together the best of the best, but my goodness.

Very much look forward to these sales.

Good lord. The quarter page is unbelievable. I always wondered where that 1821 B-6 in MS65 was hiding!

Every time I go to the Stack's web site I get frustrated. I don't know why I ever go there anymore.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

Mr. Nic - Did you hear anything about what coins get auctioned when past Part 1?

I took a look at some of the coins today. Incredible coins. I think I'll look at them again tomorrow. The special labels are hideous and nearly illegible, though, in my opinion.

I once walked into the Musee D'Orsay, maybe the second floor, and was greeted by a wall with two Van Goghs and 5 Monets. Or maybe the MOMA Matisse exhibit 20 years ago. It's simply too much to absorb in ten looks, let alone two. Overload of eye candy. It takelooking again and again and .... TY CoinFacts.

I remember seeing a whole lot of these coins sell, a few before I had any understanding of them. Most, luckily, afterwards.
I'm pretty sure the '08 QE is the Hayes coin from maybe Auction '85. I fondled it a bit. It will be cherished by many.

I think the LIBEKTY is from a circa 1988 Christie's sale where Dave Akers paid over 200K with Martin Paul as the underbidder. There was another H10c in that sale which, I'm embarrassed to say I can't recollect visually, that also brought 200K+

Betcha Archimedes can tell you the lot numbers . . . image

The Lelan Rogers coins, and Norweb and ... and ..... Proof Bust 25c anyone?

As to selections for future sales, my understanding is that Sale II grouping will be decided after Sale I.

I have to offer an opinion that it was a mistake to send the coins to CAC. Poor marketing decision. I think there is a stigma attached to the un-beaned that, however small, will tend to draw less focus towards them. I know that sounds semi-silly, but each and every one of these coins, so many of them finest knowns, can stand on its own. However, I can also see their point.

I'd rather look again. You can be sure the world-class graders slowed down that day. . . . image

So they(Pogues) screw the customer... The City of Allen and their $60,000,000 football stadium and buy coins... Great business model. Now Allen cannot play a home game for a couple of years while the stadium is repaired and the Pogues get to sell their out of this world coinage for out of this world money. Awesome
