To all the Ebay bashers - thanks very much!!! Keep up the poo-pooing, it really helps to cut down on the competition!

Although nothing like the Scarface that was picked by last year by AUandAG, here are my best picks of 2014. Even though none of these are life-changing, I still get a thrill when I score!

Yup, my best was the Scarface picked for $720 and graded MS63, then sold on GC for $10,100.
Also have picked three Tailbars for under $100 and one for $140/
Picked a nice Kimpton clasher, 1921d in MS raw
Several nice Hit list 40 Morgans...
Several 1879cc's for under $100 and one from a board member in PCGS for $100 (not a real pick)

    Was a good year.

5 figures of business each year… one of these days I'll reach 6 figures. If I ever do 7, I'll probably quit.
I don't bash ebay. It's an Ebay Bash. People who do not like shopping for deals rarely find them.

I didn't have time to look for much on eBay since I changed jobs in January, but the guy who outbid my tracking bid and won a nice BU 1972-D cent with an incomplete clip for $86.55 did pretty well. image

Seller quickly realized the error and I graciously agreed to cancel.

Thought it was worth $4k-5K when I slammed the buy it now. Closer to $20k is the truth.

You guys aren't bashing hard enough ...

I woke up at 5 am today to bid over 3x the start price of a cool rare coin today ...... only to be the 2nd highest bidder at the end.

Lost another very eye appealing coin last night , again 2nd highest bidder ........

I did win a cool PCGS mushroom last night, so some of the bash may be working ....

This is a partial copy of a post I made about best finds but these comments are particular to eBay.

I started January by finding the second only graded example of a 1911 D/D RPM #1. I had promised a fellow forum member that if I ever found another – he would be the first to know. By midyear I had found another 3, which were all placed in fellow collectors collections. Thus all 5 known PCGS graded examples have been found by me. (on eBay)

In February I picked a raw 1927 DDO cent which even though it graded only AU, it is the nicest AU for the grade and it only cost me $15 but I ended up with a $300 coin with my former example going to another forum member. (eBay)

For some strange reason I was able to snag a 1910 S/S RPM 2 in an unattributed holder of which the seller listed it as an RPM, but it still sold for less than a regular 64 R&B 1910 S cent at $208. Current BV for this variety is $1300. Must have been a case of folks being too lazy or unwilling to resubmit for a variety designation? (eBay)

Next came a cent I have been searching for years. In fact, I even offered a $50 reward for the privilege to just examine anyone’s example with no such luck. Again, the only PCGS graded example was held in a forum collector’s set, which he generously shared with me to examine. And then finally one night while searching on eBay, I took an $8 gamble that paid off with the second only graded example thus far of the 1911 D/D RPM 3. (eBay)

And finally, my last big find. For those who know Lincolns and follow the 1972 DDO series – there is nothing more valuable than DDO #4. I paid $1900 for a MS 64 brown example back in 2007. But later traded it. These have come and gone at auction and always for over $2000. But diligence paid off. As I picked the coin with bad pictures off of eBay for $27 and it now resides in a MS 63 R&B holder with a BV of $3000.
(And yet again, only on eBay)

Saying Ebay bashing results in / is cause of buying good coins. is like saying a heart attack victim died because of a sunny day

The buys are always out ..like a 2006 PCGS MS 70 20th Anniv Silver Eagle for$ 515.00

Here is one of the most outlandish and strangest requests/ correspondences I have been amused by in a long time from ebay or in the shop.
And I won't bash ebay, nor the person attempting to dicker with me, but seriously… if one cannot bid because Ebay shut them off from bidding, WHY would anyone in their right mind ask for a "discount", in the process of trying to negotiate a deal behind the scenes in the message box ?

With that said, here is one I got in my "MESSAGE BOX" today. image

Make heads or tails of it. I cannot.

    Hi,

What's the lowest you'll take on this? Also eBay won't let me make an offer because of 2 unpaid transactions (seller was a fraud) but I'll pay for this immediately. Thanks
