Calling all Flying Eagle Specialists for Grade (Fixed Pics)

Hey guys,

I was offered this two coins today at an affordable rate so I snagged them up.
The better of the two is a 1858 SL Flyer that I think is a strong AU-55-58 if the black on the reverse will come off? What do you guys think? In hand the coin has a nice orange peel glow to it

-The obverse and reverse are similar in color, sorry for the deceiving photos

The second one is a nice brown 1857 that looks strong XF 40-45, and all original

My questions are what grades, as well as if the 58 can be saved by getting the black off, doesn't look into the coin. Any suggestions on process?

Thanks in advance, all opinions welcome

1858...au (probably a 55) but a details grade for environmental damage.

    1857...ef45

I think that "double eagle 59" has it right. The 1858 Small Letters has AU sharpness, but the obverse has been cleaned and the reverse has corrosion. The 1857 is a decent coin that would grade EF-45.

" if the black on the reverse will come off? "
copper is a booger to do anything with and hope for a grade

the 58 color looks off to me...au50/53 if someone hadn't of messed with it

    the 57
    obverse looks ok
but the reverse is kinda iffy

    probably as others as stated...xf45

I see a container of acetone in your future. Just to get off the crud off the 58

The reverse on the '58 could well show environmental damage if the black is removed.... good luck...Cheers, RickO

If you remove the black on the 1858 you will either have an unnatural looking surface or "holes" in the surface. Either way, that coin is what it is and won't get better.
