An Ebay story....Happy !

jayPemjayPem Posts: 4,082 ✭✭✭✭✭
A few months ago I spotted this coin. It had a certain something about it I liked ( image) so I hit the BIN and began looking forward to it's arrival...a few hours later I get a message from the seller, I'm sorry, I can't seem to find the coin, I think I lost it or sold it already, can I interest you in one of these others I have listed ?
I'm thinking, yeah right...take a look at his other stuff and reply, No thanks, but please let me know if you find the first one !

So of course, I'm sure that it's a classic case of BS, but I forget about it and say no more.

Then a couple weeks ago I get a message from the seller, He's found the coin...do I still want it ? Yeah, sure, send it ! So, this arrives....image

It's not at all the original coin....but i kind of like it ! Really great color ( better than pics image) and if it grades UNC by chance, then it'll be a great deal ( still ok if AU..), so I tell him it's the wrong coin but I'll keep it...LMK if you ever find the first one !

Still, I'm thinking, he really doesn't want to give it up, that's ok. BUT...finally last week I get the message " Found the coin ! Should I send it ? " I say yeah sure, what the heck...hope it's the one in the pics and it's not scrubbed...

Picked it up this morning image...moral is, sometimes it's best to simply chill out and let it go....and definately don't neg folks just because things don't go your way !!!

    Nice ending!
You are showing two coins I have never in my life seen or read about.
Would you please provide more info. on their origin?
    Thanks!

Great story. My good eBay experiences outweigh the bad by at least 1000 to 1. Congrats on a couple of cool coins! image

Doh, forgot that info...I was just so escited to post a positive ebay experience image
They are Brazilian 960 reis, struck over 8 reales. The original coin I wanted is struck over the ellusive Chile Independente ( Volcano Peso...added a close up of volcano)
It's a sort of scarce undertype...with the possibility of being a truly extrodinary find if it had turned out to have been a Coquimbo rather than a Santiago mint....not this time though image

Way to keep your head and handle things the way you did.
I agree with your line of thinking. Regrettably, pretty rare around here.

Glad it worked out so well for you.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Very neat coin and great story. I've had no bad experiences on ebay in 15 years of buying and selling. I've sold very little (no coins) and I am careful who I buy from.

This really is a happy ebay story and I think both of you handled it exceptionally well.

Have to agree with exojunkie...the ratio of good to bad eBay deals for me is similarly high, buying and selling.
I wonder if it might be a matter of unrealistic expectations for those who seem to hate the place ?

Expecting to be able to buy inventory at super low prices...or to actually sell your junk for the absurd BINs some sellers
come up with...or to use the venue without having to pay the going rate.
eBay is what it is...expecting it to be something else can cause frustration, no doubt image
