No more $10 bills??

air4mdcair4mdc Posts: 938 ✭✭✭✭✭
Sorry in advance for this is not a coin related post but just curious if any others have heard such nonsense? Long story short, on a trip to Walmart today I had debited forty dollars cash back at the register when checking out. The clerk asked how I wanted that. I said, " A twenty and two tens." The clerk stated, " Sorry, we don't carry ten dollar bills anymore." He exlplained nicely to me that people have been complaining they get too many tens back in change. So as of a couple of weeks ago Walmart no longer orders ten dollar bills. And yes his drawer had an empty spot where the tens go. This doesn't make any sense to me. Anyone care to share a though on this one?

Nowhere in your conversation with that Walmart clerk is there even a hint of the $10. note no longer being printed.
To make any conclusion in that direction would be quite a leap.

Would be more logical for Wal-Mart to stop transacting Cents.

My local Fresh and Easy (small grocer) spits out only tens when you self check (they don't have any
checkers at all). Never get a twenty in change.

There have been a few times lately when I expected a ten and a few singles back in change and got two fives instead but never thought to ask why.

    OK, first, Walmart??

    Second, Walmart?!

Third, who gives a red-light special what a clerk at Walmart says about anything other than "would you like a bag with those vienna sausages?"

Next, Shopko is refusing to validate handicap parking for able-bodied pajama wearers......

    What Mileswait said!

Good grief....how easy it is for rumors to get started!
  • The Subway sandwich store inside my local WalMArt will no long accept older $100.00 bills. Said they are too east to counterfeit. So maybe there is something to wallyworld not using 10s since no one checks them to see if they are real anymore.

Is this the same WalMart that was advance promoting the new Sacagawea dollars in 2000? I wonder if they still carry them.

$10 bills can be confusing. Oh those wacky Walmart cashiers.

Seriously„ I had a cashier tell me years ago that they weren't placed in the register because they were frequently given out in change in place of a twenty.

Several years ago, I was a cashier at Macy's and they would not order dimes.

To solve that problem, I used to hoard the dimes I got from customers. Everyone wondered why one till was always full of dimes.

Sounds like overkill on Walmart's behalf. They need to have enough tens and twenties for customer demand.

Most "small" cash sales are less than $20 but more than ten. I've noticed that you really don't encounter many tens anymore..

Ten dollar bills are common here.... in all stores. I frequently pay with a twenty, and, due to change, usually have several tens in my money clip. Cheers, RickO

Oh and they won't complain about getting twice as many $5 rather then a $10? LOL

There seems to be an alternating pattern in the popularity and use of a denomination.

    Popular: 1, 5, 20, 100.
    Less popular: 2, 10, 50.

Most casino's will disburse in $100 bills...Less green in your pocket.

When ever I cash a check at a casino, they ask if "big bills are ok" for obvious reasons. They want you to turn as much green into chips as they don't give change!

I've found the $10 bill to be the most useful of our currency. My most common transactions are just under or just over $10.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

Before a casino can disburse $100s, you must win $100s. How likely is that? The local casino machine specializes in cents and nickels.

You don't have to win to get money out of a casino ATM machine.image

And none of the casinos from WV to NJ still dispense cash out of a slot machine, vouchers is the name of the game which can be easily exchanged for $100 bills.

Knowing WallyMart, if you send then a $20, they will send you a $10!

Series 2013 two dollar bills are in circulation also. The question is, how many? Usually more $20's are produced than $10's.

    Annual production
