Likely because he posted tongue in cheek and most everyone got on their high horses with answers that didn't truly reflect what was going on.
I will admit to shaking my head at many of the posted answers...... >>
Of course, because you are the forum savant and the rest of us are slobbering dolts.
Doubtful that the opening post was initiated in jest. The subject was a bit unusual and most of us responded with a bit of surprise and I believe some pretty solid advice.
I envy your situation since my kids have no interest in the hobby. If one did and had bought the coin knowing my collecting goals, I would rejoice and pay him a finder's fee that he felt was reasonable. I would also assume that my son, given his motivations, would price the coin at a reasonable level if not at cost. If it were quoted to me at cost, I'd pay him more anyway. I would feel great that we could share the joy of this hobby. In fact, I bet the whole conversation and the eyeballing of the coin together would likely be more valuable to me than whatever price I'd pay for the coin!
I'm sorry you deleted your thread cause the topic is interesting. Would have loved to see pics too!

All your little snideness aside, which, if it isn't off topic for you, it is some snide comment, the OP had stated in a follow-up post, that he has since removed along with the rest, that his thread WAS created in fun....but that people took it quite astray.
Sorry that I read what is written and reference that instead of just trying to be funny, off topic, or resurrecting eons old threads; which SOME people seem to make a habit of doing
And, I will disagree that "most" had pretty good advice....any time a parent, of which I am one, gets into the "you aren't paying for food, rent, etc etc etc" (if the kid is in school and living at home, particularly if under 18), then that is just a sadness in that relationship and nothing to poke fun about or even give that type of advice for. The kids didn't ask to be brought into this world so, as long as they are considered minors and aren't out doing drugs/committing crimes, we parents shouldn't be trying to guilt trip them on anything like that.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
I think as a father a fitting resolution to something that was never a problem is to get an apology for something the child isn't sorry for.
