The Jack card is growing on me. It's hard to understand the price difference between sellers, I've seen that one listed for $7-70 in equivalent condition. They're definitely hard to find, but I don't think many people even know the Poulain's exist.
A cool new world. What would be considered Tigers rookie card? Were there collegiate cards, Stanford, or even "minor league", Q-school, farm league type of cards? Thank You

1996 SI for Kids is his earliest card that is currently graded. There are some unauthorized that possibly pre-date that one.
ETA: The 26 Bobby Jones, 92 Mickelson above are their rookies. Jack's is the 71 Barratt, and Seve's is the 77 Sportscaster (or for a standard sized slab, there are 3 1979 issues).

No problem, glad to help. They put Babe Ruth's name on the flip from the same set, so I think they should therefore specify Player on the golf card too. Which version did you get, small or large text on back? Both are equal in production quantity. The variety is specified in the Murrays catalogue, so it should be noted by PSA but they haven't started doing that yet.
Originally posted by: eagles33 I'm not sure. I didn't even know there were 2 versions. Is it obvious? I'm guessing mine are small text.
Here is a link to a scan of the 1st printing variation. Notice that Alan makes reference to there being two varieties on his webpage at the top of the checklist. The 1st printing has smaller font in a slightly different style than the 2nd printing, with slightly darker black. By comparison, here is a link that shows an example of the 2nd printing back side. The font is more rounded out, less compact than the 1st printing. Both are legit issue cards, and neither is considered to be a reprint.
Interesting. I checked them and think I actually got one of each because the fonts are different. I'm glad you brought this up because the lighter font looked like a photo copy or something. I'll post scans tonight.
The differences are subtle. The "rr" in the bottom text looks slightly different I think. Is this the variation or just an odd printing difference. I bought 2 sets and it looks like I got one of each

Yes, you got one of each. When you buy a set from someone, you will often find a mix of both variations among the assembled set. I wouldn't say the difference is so subtle that you'd miss it. Compare for example at the lower case g in England on the bottom line of text.
The variation is published and detailed within Murray's, which is the primary British cigarette card guide, as well-established and respected as any Beckett or SCD.
Heard back from psa and they the will not change the flip. Very annoying. I ordered murphys catalogue. Maybe it references a name in there and that will change their mind. if anyone has any other info.. Or wants to try asking them... Please go for it.
Michael from customer service. I just sent an email to the general customer service email. If you have a good contact.. Let me know or give it a try. I might ask again after I get the catalogue if there is more info.
Interesting. Is that definitely him on that card? I bought a 1976 Nabisco card because the slab said it was jimmy Connors.... But after some investigating by people on the board they determined it was not Connors.
The back of the card mentions both Gary Player & Bobby Locke, but it the picture on front looks more like Player than Locke. They have artists' illustrations, not photos on front. The baseball card in the set mentions Babe Ruth on back, and the card is labeled as a Ruth card on the flip & included in the Ruth super set. I'm going with the 1962 Dickson Orde as Gary Player's first card.
I'm still not convinced it's either of the golfers mentioned on the back, but agree it's definitely not Locke. I think it's just as likely to be a random golfer image or perhaps Harold Henning (nose and clothes match him better than Player).
I solved my problem of not getting his name on the flip by getting it signed. Hopefully its passes psa/dna and i'll have the 1962 card in a slab. I just missed the autograph group sub. i'll prob sub it in the next couple months.

Your post in the HOF rookie auto thread is what reminded me of the discussion. Is there any way to get the card name and Gary Player mentioned on the slab anymore? I think blue flip will be the only way to get his name on there, but those are labeled as Trading Card now. Otherwise for red flips, I think it will have the card name and just PSA/DNA Certified.
hmm.. I thought the red flip they would mention gary player.. I would think they would have to say the name of the persons auto that they are authenticating? Like the startwars cards that were signed by the actoros. Do they say james earl jones or just darthvader?

I'm not sure, and have no idea where they would squeeze it in. Just looking at this for example: Link I would think the three lines would be:
1962 Dickson Orde #14 South Africa Authentic or Grade PSA/DNA Certified yyyyyyy
It may end up being one you have to verify who's sig it is by checking out the PSA/DNA cert number (all y's).
that will suck. I'll take it step by step. 1st hopefully it will pass. i'll ask if they could abbreviate South America or something... Hopefully the name will eventually make it on the flip. Its amazing how ocd I am about flips.

I think you have this correct. I have a red flip psa/dna auto cert that is a Penguins team card w/ a Mario Lemieux auto on it, and they specified Mario's name on the flip too, on the 2nd of 3 lines.

I was going thru the archives and saw the 65 palmers thread...so I gotta post mine!
but I still need 2 more backs to complete the card, they are tougher!!!
I know this thread was long ago, but do have information on the measurements of these hand cuts? The length to be graded.
Thanks.
im in posting jail, hence the pic over my avatar, so not sure if this post will show up.
without a defined set of outlined borders or perforations, they are fairly lax on the size of ‘65 bancrofts. i have well over 20 different copies and the range of cards dims varies immensely.

Cool sub. Nice to see those 1985 cards slabbed. That's an interesting set.
