Exactly how rare is the 1925 Hagen? Is it one of a kind or something actually attainable. I haven't even seen the spalding for sale. What country is the 1925 from?

THe empreza is from Portugal it is a cigar company card,

It is the only one I have ever seen, it graded a PSA 2 as there was album residue on the back of the card.

    SO....it is rare.

He has an oversized card prior (1977 Sportscaster) and another 79 issue as well (Venorlandus World of Sport). I'll have to add this one to my searches, cool card!

thanks kyle! just a heads up. she's a toughy, not really price wise. I think I only paid $15 for this one a while back, they just don't come up that often.

and ah yes, the dreaded oversized sportscaster...forgot about that one!

There's a great Seve card from that set as well w/him behind a wall of sand as he's blasting out of a bunker. Feel free to hijack the other thread.

ran across these the other day while I was looking for "cards" of the 1970 dayton set and I have never seen any of these before. there were 9 cards in the lot for $99. presumably from a 9 card sheet that was given away to guests at the 1996 dayton's challenge. the autographs appear to be legit, but not the reason i bought them. early, decent looking mickelson cards are few and far between let alone a card i have never seen before. love the shot of the walrus and naturally the payne stewart was the cherry on top. if anyone has any info on these, please share. apparently this was a tourney hosted by tom lehman

    image

    the additional cards are:

    tom lehman
    mark calcavecchia
    tom kite (love this guy)
    loren roberts
    tim herron

Awesome pickup! I just ordered a 1999 Dayton's Challenge Souvenir Program listed as 129 pages w/mention of 18 cards being included. My guess is these are a cross between a Miller Press annual set and a SIFK perforated page, specially for this event. Perhaps 96 was a single sheet of cards and 99 is two sheets. I'll let you know once the Program arrives.
  • LarkinCollectorLarkinCollector Posts: 8,975 ✭✭✭✭✭
Received the 99 program today and it has two pages of perforated cards in the center, similar to SIFK, but much better protected with the additional pages in the programs, program pages that are larger than the card pages, and a heavier paper stock.

please post scans, i'm curious to see more of these from any year....

also, lemme know what cards ya need to complete that auto pro set, if they are commons or even semi stars, you can have them.

i have a whole bunch sitting around collecting dust and could use a good home.

Here's a couple bad cell phone pics, don't think I can scan them without breaking the spine on the program...

Checklist for the 1997 Dayton's Challenge (15 cards):

    Payne Stewart
    Tim Herron
    Davis Love III
    Tom Kite
    David Duval
    Lee Janzen
    Mark Brooks
    Gary McMord
    Larry Mize
    John Cook
    Jay Haas
    Steve Jones
    Tom Lehman
    Duffy Waldorf
    Scott Simpson

Looks like the tournament ran from 1995-2000 so there are likely sets for 1995, 1998, & 2000 as well.

Just an FYI, there are two versions of this card: base and a large. Yours looks to be the smaller of the two. I just purchased the only PSA graded large (thanks again Greg!) and will post scans when it arrives. If you choose to get yours graded you'll likely have the highest graded of the base, it's currently a pop 1 with a PSA4 as the only example.

I've also got the 97 Dayton's Challenge set (in the pairings guide for that year) on the way and it should arrive tomorrow, should have some scans/pics up on Monday.

Yes, Kyle is correct. You have the standard (small) size issue card there. The Large version is a lower print run and a bit harder to find but both are good. The only graded Large version is on its way to Kyle, but I agree, yours will probably be the new highest graded of the smaller one.

these programs are cool! does it say what the golf tourney was for? will have to be on the look out myself...the payne appears to be the same shot as the one i posted?

as for the seve you guys are correct. there is a jack nicklaus (or is it steve martin?) card from the same set...

these are from my older scanner:

  • My friend went to the 97 one and got many of them signed and gave it to me. One he didn't get was Stewart. Should I sell it as a sheet or individually? I used to graph these golfers every year, got Nicklaus and Player one year. Never knew Phil M was there or else would have index carded him like Duval was when I had I no cards for him. Lehman was great around here and is still a favorite, wish the tment kept going.

The tourney benefited the Children's Cancer Research Fund, sponsored by Dockers & Northwest Airlines. There's not a whole lot of other info about the tournament except the Wiki mention on the Minneapolis Golf Club page. Yes, the Payne shot does look the same, though either taken from a higher angle or the background was photoshopped.

I would sell as a sheet if you're looking to part with it. Outside of the Stewart, none of those autos sell for much individually.

A tough Nicklaus arrived today, 1985 Poulain (per PSA, eBay listings also have had it as 1984 & 1986). It's part of the Nicklaus Master set and there are only 3 graded copies of him (41 total graded in the whole set, none higher than a PSA 6). Goofy photo, thin paper stock, touch of red in the lower right corner, but for under $10 I couldn't pass it up....

The other 79 Seve and several others from the set...

I've got the Trevino as well, just missing T Watson to complete this run.

Hint: Bob posted his examples on page 2 and each has a total pop of less than 10 image I got them for a third of my snipe which even if it went for my full snipe would have been a pretty good deal.

<< <i>What do you guys have for Gary Player's rookie card? Is it his 1971 Barratt? >>

I thought his RC was the 1962 Dickson Orde.
  • eagles33eagles33 Posts: 2,682 ✭✭✭
Interesting. Is that definitely him on that card? I bought a 1976 Nabisco card because the slab said it was jimmy Connors.... But after some investigating by people on the board they determined it was not Connors.

The back of the card mentions both Gary Player & Bobby Locke, but it the picture on front looks more like Player than Locke. They have artists' illustrations, not photos on front. The baseball card in the set mentions Babe Ruth on back, and the card is labeled as a Ruth card on the flip & included in the Ruth super set. I'm going with the 1962 Dickson Orde as Gary Player's first card.

Here they are, 1979 Hall of Famers Nicklaus and Palmer. The Nicklaus is MC and both have some of staining on the back, but they're rare enough I'm happy to own them in any grade....

PWE is still the fastest way to get anything through the USPS. It sure looks more like Martin than Nicklaus, it's almost like all the Euro issues of that era tried to make him look as goofy as possible.

    << <i>Large or Small version? >>

Small, but it's odd for the Nicklaus it seems to be the tougher version (opposite of the rest of the set).

Here's the highs and lows of my recent sub results...

The PSA 3 Jones was a BVG5 crackout, the PSA 2 Jones will be returning to PSA for a Mech Error. Hagen and Mickelson were raw pickups.

One of these is not like the other image The one on the right should be labeled as a 1927 British American Tobacco.
