I bought a nice 1916-D.

I hope you weren't expecting a Merc 'cause the coin I bought is a Walker. A gentleman who runs an Auction business and has done business with my boss for 20-30 years came in last night and left us some stuff to give him a price on. He's been cleaning out his building as part of the moving process and this assortment must have been stuff that was laying around. It is typical of what we seem to see --- a group of Proof/Mint Sets, currency from the US and Canada, Morgan/Peace Dollars and misc. coins in different types of containers. It was the two coins in one of those containers that made the collection special: the below pictured 1916-D Walking Liberty Half-Dollar and a 1795 Flowing Hair Half-Dollar that would probably grade G/VG!! It was a little dark around the edges and had a circ-cam look but everything was clear and ledgible.
My boss got to work early this morning so he had the two coins waiting for me when I walked in. Though I was tempted to buy the 1795 I settled for the Walker. What is really peculiar is that I had been watching a 1916-D graded PCGS XF45 on eBay for about three weeks and waited too long, someone else snapped it up. Now it seems my hesitation was a good thing. The coin is close in color to the picture, has no distracting marks, a fair amount of luster remains and though I don't really like the word, it is "Crusty" and original looking. What really knocks me out is the rims, look at those rims!!

Well there`s my answer...
Doesn't matter IMO - the coin is choice and extremely appealing .. that is really all that matters In my world.. Don't need PCGS or any other TPG to tell you that
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
It could be a 55. Looks nice!
Will you get it plasticized?
Mike
no, at least not in the near future. it's already in a holder in a box ready to be stored away, one more to cross off on my Type Set list.

Just leave it alone as based on the images there's nothing on this coin that's worrisome.

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
<< <i>If it really has that much luster, I'd say that coin would be a crack out or president's review candidate. It looks better than EF-45 to me. >>
The coin posted in the OP is not a PCGS xf45. The xf45 referred to is this one from Glen Holsonbake which recently ended on eBay

Based on the picture, an acetone bath wouldn't hurt, but from his prior posts in many threads I would defer to keets evaluation of the coin in hand. A great find, regardless.
yeah Bajjer, that's the one I was following. I think I did OK and saved a few dollars on top of it. both coins are nice for the date with similar skin from what was probably long term, enclosed storage in a fairly non-reactive environment.

Are you serious? Don't even think of dipping that beauty.

well, since this keeps coming up I thought I'd comment --- are you insane!!!!!! and I've dipped a few coins in my life.
actually, after I made my desire to purchase the coin made clear to my boss he yanked my chain a little, kept telling me maybe we should dip it to see what it looks like. this was an easy decision, ala Soup Nazi.........................No dip for you!!
