Mike - you would have done a little better on you auction if not for my stupidity, planned on buying the 1892 quarter you had on auction but waited to bid, then had a little medical incident come up that prevented me from getting back to the auction.

Justin - I will be starting my raw quarter set, vf's and xf's hope to find some as nice as your 95 half.

Vern - nice pics, post a few more of your raw quarters again.

Milo- both of those 40s are superb

Jeff- is say the bottom (16-S) has a 58 shot and the 16p a 55 just because I think the 16-S has more luster but it could be my eyes. Both are nice coins in any aspect.

Mike- I was an active bidder last night and got Very aggrevated because I won the 93-S quarter and sat my phone down when it closed only to look back down and see they(Heritage) reopened the lot for a late bid and I wasn't quick enough to win it so I was done I'm not sure of it was yours.

I was bidding on the '93 S Quarter as well; I wasn't fast enough on the draw either. I did end up with the '01 and '03 S Quarters. Were those your , Mike?
    I love them Barber Halves.....

Jeff those 2 you got were nice and of I had known I wouldn't have been bidding against you on the 93-S. I know it's auction but don't like costing fellow barberthreaders more $$ because we have enough competition already. Congratulations on the 2 you got.

Wow, what a group of nice posts over the weekend. I was visiting my mother in Cedar Rapids, Iowa over the weekend so I got a little behind. Back in Wisconsin now getting caught up.

Justin - your 95-S half is one great looking coin.

Jeff - Good luck with the dime submissions. You might have enough luster to get a 58 in both, let us know the results.

Mike - Your 98 half in 53 is some kind of coin. I wouldn't crack that one out either ... NOOOOO WAAAYYYYYYYYY!!

Paesan - Another stunner with your 06-O in 58. Doug's set was indeed an amazing set.

Vern - your 98 in 58 is just superior. I would also like to see some of your raw coins as well.

I noticed the reopening of the lot for the 1893-S and it closed at $280 after it opened at $240.
The coin sold for a song - a bad song - as I paid $490 all in. Yet another kick in the pants.

The 1901, Jeff was not my coin. The 1903-S in AU 53, was my coin. It opened and closed at $220.
and with buyers fees and delivery, it actually closed close to $270. I didn't get creamed on this deal,
I paid $250. all in on that one.

Isn't this fun ? All I can say is that thank God I love the series and have enjoyed the hunt. This has
been quite the experience. I still like to upgrade my AU's to 58's and I just added a nice 1904-S Dime in PCGS 58+ ( image posted previously ) and it ran me $1,235.00 as opposed to my other 04-S in 58, which I have bought and sold twice - the most recent time it ran me $643. This week, a beautifully toned 04-S Dime in PCGS 55 - sold for $340 ( once again, I paid a collector on the Forums $600.00 ).

Dave, I hope you're okay. I know that a medical emergency can be
very difficult ( at least in my age group ) . The 1892 in 55 was a nice
coin, and I enjoyed it until I started picking up colorful 58's.... Seems
I have five 1892 Phila Quarters in PCGS 58 - all are drop dead gorgeous.
Seems I have three type ones, and two type twos. One day, these will get
the axe, stay tuned, nothing is forever.

Dave - Hope your medical incident was nothing serious.

Mark - Reopening the bidding? That sucks. Good luck on your 05-P and O bids.

Jeff - Congrats on your 01-P and 03-S winners.

Milo - I agree, Doug's set was amazing.

Mike - Buying high and selling low only works for the outfits the federal govt supports.

Mike- I hope your dimes did well

Vern- yeah that out a bad taste in my mouth because if a lot closes it should go to the highest bidder or atleast reopen for 60seconds which it was maybe 20extra. Also those 2 raw chuckles are pretty sweet. I've never bought one but thought about assembling a low grade set Vf-Xf

Vern...Thanks for sharing the circ V Nickels, as I have a fondness for them,
as my Grandfather had tons of them in that approx grade. I only have a few
left raw, as duplicates. Always nice seeing them.

Mark....yes, good luck with your 1905 & 05-O Quarter bids. Sorry, but they're
    not from my Consignmwnt.

Well, tonight, the balance of my duplicates hits the block at Heritage. I'll just
watch what happens - maybe a tear or two will trickle down my cheeks - but
as I mentioned before, nothing is forever, including coins as an investment.
I knew I should have bought Enron stocks when I had the chance !!! image

Vern-Mike - medical crisis over, nothing a few more pills added to my growing arsenal of meds won't fix.

Really wanted the quarter, learned a lesson though, don't wait to place your bid, may not have the chance later.

Mark - absolutely perfect dime, really like the color sequence.

Dave - thanks alot I love it. Now if I could only squeeze a certain 96 au dime out of a certain hoarders collection it would be a perfect pair. But that will never happen and I don't blame him

Mark...nice 1897 Dime from GC. I hope it was a true auction and not a reserved auction.

The Heritage auction was as expected, a 37% loss. At least I'm driving myself to the
    "Poor House" in BMW's....lol

I have an early bid in on a Seated Quarter in PCGS 65 - for my 1891 Date Set.
Now, I'm praying I get out bid. I need this coin like a hole in my head ....????????????

Edit: I received a text last night that I was out bid on the 1891 Quarter in PCGS 65 CAC ...
going to miss not upgrading that date slot - but - image

Darn "tootin" .... That will never happen. Will hold that one for quite awhile. I crossed it to PCGS
....it went from an NGC 58 to a PCGS "cross at any grade" which just so happened to be a 55.
    I didn't care... I have a MS 64 ...and a couple of other 58's all in PCGS holders. It's still a great
looking Dime, even though my YN called it AT and said it wouldn't cross at any grade. Young
kids, what do they know...lol....probably a lot more than I do.

At least I felt justified buying it once it actually crossed.

Jeff... Only the 1894 Phila in PC 55 was mine ( it was CAC ) ...
oddly enough, it was the only coin which made me money
(For that, I thank you ), I made a whopping $24 on that one.

    Mark-

I love the look of the new '05 Quarter!

Vern- as usual you post photos of great looking coins. Please do me a favor and post a photo of your WORST looking coin someday so I don't feel so bad.

All is good in Tampa. There's a little flooding but no big deal. It's interesting how the media exagerates everything; seen it before. We did get a major storm roll through about 4:30 AM that woke up the entire community- it sounded like a war broke out.
    I love them Barber Halves.....
  • Options
Mark - I almost bid on that 05, but now I'm glad I didn't since you were interested in it. Good job.

Jeff - You know, I think your idea of posting a couple of terrible coins is a great idea. I know that speaking for myself, that maybe ... just maybe ... there were a couple I shouldn't have bought in the past, but I chalked it up to learning the hard way. Now, with that said, I don't think a guy like Vern has really acquired a bad coin in his life. I'm sure that is the case for more than one of our colleagues on the thread. Anyway, it's an interesting subject that should be fun since most of us have been there at one time or another. P.S. I'm glad things are under control for you in Florida hurricane-wise. I completely agree with your comment of the media exaggerating events. I rarely watch the news as I need less stimulation in my life, not more. You can draw a parallel of this comment with Paesan's theme of "More Coins, Less Government." In either case, more coins is the direction I want to go.

Jim - A get together sounds great!! I'll be in touch.

Jeff - I've had many "worst" looking coins over the years, as I've had as much of a learning curve as anyone else. As I returned to the hobby in 1988, my "worst's" happened long before I had a digital camera to record them. They're long gone I'm glad to say, usually at a loss, but with a lesson learned. My learning process continues today, but now it's by looking at lots of coins at shows and having discussions with fellow collectors (and a few dealers). I don't buy as many coins as I used to, but generally I'm pleased with the ones I do buy.

Also, glad the weather left you unscathed.

Mike - I'd hang on to that '96 dime for the duration as well.

Thanks, Vern. I intend to hold onto it for awhile more.

NoHeadlights ( Jim ) and I were chatting the other day,
we're both hoping you can make it to Ft. Lauderdale FUN
next January. I also understand that Doug would also like
to come down, but wants to drive.

Buy him a few "rusty nails" and put him on a non stop flight
to Ft Lauderdale. The FUN show is less than 20 minutes from
    the airport.

A general apology to all who have been having issues
Registering my old coins...I thought I deleted all of them,
but, it seems the 1894 Quarter in 55 was not deleted....
    (Sorry, Jeff )....

If you have sets ATS, there's an excellent chance I did not
    delete everything....I hate their system.

Mike - Stunning dime, couldn't get much better.

FTB - I agree with Vern, real nice coins for a real good price.

Vern - Like all your raw coins , i'm sure you put a lot of time in finding them. I went to two coin shops here in St Louis and believe it or not couldn't find one VF-XF Barber quarter to add to my Dansco set. All g to vg, some real nice looking but not VF's, can't wait for the show coming up in October.
