For me, the National is all about meeting up with fellow collectors and sharing our interests, collections, etc., but it never seems like enough time. It was great catching up with Shane (1954), Dusto (sorry I can't remember your real name), Dustin (Doublestriker), Mike (mknez), Kirk (mrmint23), Scott (ssollars), Jeff (cardcountry), Jeff (jeffcbay), Chris (jordangretzkyfan), Scott (otwcards), Dan (thunderdan), Brian (ChiefsFan1st) and the family, Todd (ClockworkAngel), Curt (bbcemporium) and your boys, Dave (70ToppsFanatic), Logan (nascarking), Jim (Vintagefun), Terry (1neatstuff), Kevin (kgibson) and your lovely wife, Paul (moonlightgraham), Al (Bicey10), Paul (wolfbear), Tom (tkd), Richard (cardbender), Jami (lostdart), Dave (davemri), Tyler (Dty), Mark (cincyredlegs), Eric (ThoseBackPages), and Nathan (1980scollector). And I apologize if I forgot anyone.
Since I got to the show early on Tuesday, I was able to watch the BBCE crew in action. It was amazing the amount of unopened product they were able to put out in such a short period of time. Steve, I think Rick and Reed need a raise. It was also great to meet up with Richard there as well. I think by the end of the show his nickname was Mr. Clean. Thanks for taking the time to chat with me and catch up.
On Wednesday, my wife and I took a trip to the Football HOF which was preparing for the induction ceremony which was cool to see. Here are some pictures I took.
But I don't understand how this guy got in here...
Wednesday night, I was able to go to dinner with fellow collectors Eric, Kirk, Dustin, and Chris and had a blast. Eric, thanks for distracting my wife while I got to talk to Chris about unopened. Definitely some of the best conversations of the show.
Thursday night we were able to take in an Indians game after negotiating all the construction. Thanks to Scott, we were able to sit next to this guy which was fun until about the 7th inning or so when my hearing started to fade, LOL.
Some more random pictures from the game.
As far as the actual show, I had three main things on my hit list; a 1969 Topps Baseball rack pack, a 1970 Topps Baseball rack pack, and a 1972 Topps Baseball cello pack. Well, unfortunately I stuck out swinging. However, I felt fortunate to spot this baby on Wednesday and snatched it without hesitation.
The other items on my list was to stock up on as much 1976 rack & cello packs and 1977 rack packs as I could find. This was the best I could do and I apologize to Manny in advance as I didn't realize it was going to be a Red Sox bonanza.
As I was at the show, there was a 6 box 1985 Topps Baseball rack case which was calling my name. I am being serious here. So just before I left on Saturday, I pulled the trigger after splitting it up with two other board members. Thanks guys!!!
Overall, I had a great time, but it wouldn't be half as fun without all you guys. Already looking forward to 2015!!!

Thanx for sharing.
My wife already told me she's looking forward to us doing a road trip next year. I'm working on finalizing my office sale. I have no problem joining the ranks of the retired.
I'll find plenty to do! I will still work 1 day a week.
So, I hope we have time to hang out.
The 69T pack is sweet! I do want one for a display I'm doing.
WTB: PSA 1 - PSA 3 Centered, High Eye Appeal 1950's Mantle
I'd also like to publicly thank Mike for helping me track down and check an item off of my personal wishlist at the show.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Again - thanx for sharing your experience. You're one of the truly entertaining guys at CU.
Thanks for taking the time to upload those photos and share your thoughts on the show. I really appreciate it. Always great to hear from you.

<< <i>mike it was a pleasure to see and meet you also along with all the other board members I met...cant wait for the next national and hope to see you guys again also great pickups >>
Ditto
Thanks for sharing. Nice pics of the trip. Congratulations on your pickups. Sorry you didn't get the items on your pre-show wish list, but what you got was pretty sweet. Thanks for being my eyes and ears at the National!
Are you crazy Mike? Those 1985 rack boxes are wrapped from a sealed case.
I'm glad I was able to help you out Jeff and Steve at the National. Can't wait till you guys can make one. That goes for you too Doug. Two more years for Atlantic City.
Terry, Tim lied to me about you. He is not to be trusted.
Marc, thanks for the kind words. Hope to see you at the show too in the future.
Brian, I had a blast finally meeting you. One of the best guys around here. Looking forward to Chicago!!!

<< <i>Thanks guys. My wife and I had a great time. Of course, any time without the kids 24-7 is a GREAT time. We did miss them though. Forgot to mention that we picked up a signed ball from Tom Glavine for my oldest and a signed puck from King Henrik for my little guy.

She obviously hasn't been on CBT.

Manny and Matt, you guys were missed this year, but other things are more important in life. Glad I was able to share some pictures with you guys and hopefully I'll see you guys in Chicago next year.

Believe me, I enjoyed the game, but I especially enjoyed the company. No one else I'd rather take a game in with, unless it is a Mets-Yankees game.
Thanks again!!!

Great recap! Love the wax haul and those are some nice racks! Looking forward to next year in Chicago. We need more CPA's to account for all the carnage of unopened at the BBCE booth! Maybe you'll even rip through a few packs? Not sure how persuasive other board members are to get you to rip, or if at least at this point, its a lost cause....

It was nice to see you and your lovely wife again.
Oh..... And thanks for the ride to the Indians game!

FINISHED 12/8/2008!!!
Bobby, the last two years haven't been the same without you. If you don't come next year, we'll come kidnap you.
John, even though you like that other college, I'd still buy you a beer next year.
You're welcome Dave. You made the right choice on transportation to the game and refreshments after. Looking forward to next year's game in a nice peaceful location.

Does that mean that I have to get Mets/Yanks AND Devils Isles tix for the next season? BTW, White Sox or Cubs will be the Thursday game in Chicago. Are you an Pam in? I'm not treating the whole crew this time...

Or course we are in. Pam loves going to baseball games even more than me. Just wish she wasn't a Yankees fan. No one can be perfect.
If you got tickets to an Islanders/Devils game, I'd actually root for the Devils, LOL.

<< <i>Thanks for noticing my lovely racks Jeremy. Looking forward to seeing you and perhaps your Dad in Chicago. But be prepared for disappointment as I never rip anything. >>
Never? Never? I believe there are witness's from this year's nationals when you ripped a pack, after which you said "I killed a legitimate pack". However, it probably wasn't your most embarrassing moment at nationals.

No problem, glad you enjoyed them. While most people are not looking forward to the Atlantic City National in 2016 for legitimate reasons, it will be a nice short trip for me. Plus, my youngest son Zachary has been begging me to go and that will be the year I do. Btw, he likes to rip open packs.

Me too. The odd thing about it is that I do not feel the same way about action figures. I keep them imprisoned for life. I hope to see you in Atlantic City CPA Mike.
<< <i>Thanks for the pictures Mike. I've always been a fan of '77 bb racks. In fact the very first unopened pack I ever purchased from The Baseball Card Exchange was a '77 bb rack in 2002 for a whopping $50!!! >>
Those were the good old days.
I wish I could have bought some of those 1975 racks Steve had, but unfortunately money doesn't go as far in this market. Hoping we are seeing a break in the action so to speak with prices finally settling in.

Mike,
I wouldn't be surprised if they move the AC show somewhere else. AC is in shambles. Although that would be nice for me since I'm in NY/NJ so often.
<< <i>Hi great to meet everybody had a great time wow was looking for 69 graded pack >>
Al, it was great meeting you too. That 1969 was one of the first things I pulled the trigger on as you don't see those in such a high grade very frequently.

I've always wanted a cello pack from the year I was born and even though it isn't a Met on top, it is a pretty sweet pack.
And this definitely would not seem like an item to belongs in my collection, but I have fond memories of ripping through a box of these back in the day. Now, as my penance, I have decided to save this one.
