<< <i>1993 Wild Card. Already showed the correction of his card (center) and chrome version (right), but said I needed the 146A error that misspells his name "Tippet" on the front. I landed that, but it opened a can of worms. Now that I have the "5 stripe" of the error, I'll need the 10, 20, 50, 100 and 1000 stripe versions of the error and all 6 stripe variations of the correction. Ugh. >>
Welcome to the evils of hardcore player collecting It's awesome when you finally hit some of those harder parallels though!
VERY EXCITED about this new addition!! Out of the blue, board member initialD said he was sending me something he picked up at a card show. It arrived today and I was FLOORED! Here it is....
This is only my second autographed Tippett card, and my first from the 92 Pro Line Profiles series of 9 cards. I find the photos on a couple of those cards to be strange (and one to be "strangely erotic") so I'm glad that this is one of the awesome cards in the set. For those that don't know, Tippett has competed in the karate world championships. Thanks again for a killer card Bill!
Edited to add: that's not scuffing or "snow" in the bottom right corner. It's embossed as being authentic and part of the factory-issued, autographed set.
On a related note, some non football fans, or at least non Tippett fans, have said they don't know too much about the guy and have asked me about him. Here is a brief synopsis copied and pasted from a pm I sent somebody tonight:
Tippett is a HOFer. Finished with 100 career sacks, which was a huge deal when he played. Named First Team All-Decade for the 1980s. If he didn't play at the same time as a guy named Lawrence Taylor, he'd be considered the #1 premier pass rushing linebacker of his generation. Until the Brady years, the patriots didn't have much success, so Tippett is one of their few legends. Still works for the team as a VP. He was my favorite player when I was growing up.
Thanks for looking. I think this is one sweet card!
<< <i>Congrats, he's got a pretty legible sig as well. >>
Yeah, I'm pretty lucky that the guys I collect have nice sigs. Tippett's is nice, Cappelletti's is flawless, and Yaz's is distinct; you can easily make out "Carl Y.......ski"
As I've said before, I have an inexplicable affinity for stickers. This is from '87 Topps. If you've got to share your card/sticker with another player, you can't do any better than sharing it with Mr. Rice. Btw no, this card isn't extremely scuffed, I just have a crappy scanner.
I bought a large lot of Tippett items on eBay, mostly stickers with a couple of cards. I'm hoping it arrives tomorrow or the next day. When it does, I'll post photos. As always, thanks for looking at this thread.
Cool card Dan. I don't remember that sticker at all. How was it originally packaged/sold? Glad you added it to your Tippet collection. Of course, I like the card for the other guy.
Hi Steve, the sticker is part of the normal Topps stickers set for that year, distributed in packs and meant to be inserted in the album. Andre has a solo sticker in the same set.
OK, today was Tippett oddball-palooza when I opened my mail. Here we go, in chronological order.....
Topps stickers, 1985 on the left. On the right is his 1984 rookie sticker, shared with Jack Youngblood.
More Topps stickers, shared with big stars. 1986 with Art Monk, 1988 with Eric Dickerson. On the other side of the '88 is a card with Neal Anderson. I still need the variations with James Lofton or Eddie Brown on the other side. If you have either of those available, please let me know.
Edited to add that's lint on the scanner, not damage to the Tippett/Dickerson.
Congrats Dan ... nice to see you get ones you didn't have.
STAY HEALTHY!
Doug
Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Nice to see some major love for stickers. The hobby in general just doesn't value these much for some reason.
I'd not seen the Panini stickers before and I thought I was very well versed with 80's football offerings.
Glad to see you've ventured solidly into oddball and variations... and into super collector territory. These sort of items are, in my opinion, the coolest part of being a player collector.

When I started this thread, I laid out the following goals:
1. Collect at least one autographed TIPPETT card 2. Obtain a PSA or BGS graded copy of his rookie card 3. Complete his PSA Basic Set composite in raw form
Since then, through the generosity of board members, I've exceeded #1 - two signed Tippett cards (and a signed ball) and counting. And my target list has exceeded the PSA basic set and then even the master set composite, which I found to be incomplete. The list I'm working off of now includes about 50 items that aren't on the supposed "master" composite. It's been a lot of fun chasing this stuff.
So what about goal #2 ? Well I'm thrilled to have landed this beauty, purchased from board member FavreFan1971. Thanks again Troy!
Very excited about this piece, which I got for Christmas from my wife and sons. This photo is stolen from the eBay listing. It's currently in a comic bag and a top loader and I don't want to take it out and handle it. Anyways, here goes:
Thanks for the info! I'll have to add those UK versions to my wish list. Do you know the year and sticker number for the tippett action shot you referenced?
90 Tiffany on the left, 93 Collector's Edge on the right.
I really really like this 93 Pacific Prism a lot, right down to the font of his name.
I wanted to say that I appreciate those of you who follow this thread, and I appreciate that those of you who aren't interested in raw 80's and 90's cards like this haven't complained on this thread. I know the stuff on here isn't for everyone, but my favorite part of this site is the player collector threads, so I try to keep mine updated. Thanks for looking!
<< <i>I really really like this 93 Pacific Prism a lot, right down to the font of his name. >>
I always liked the Prisms as well, just be glad Tippett didn't have any in the 1999/2000 Prism sets when they got a little crazy with the background variations. I'm still chasing a few Larkins for my Prism run.
I love this stuff! I have a bunch of player collections from the 80's and 90's that I just collect for binders, I just have never made the commitment to show them off even though I love when collectors like yourself show theirs.
Collecting anything and everything relating to Roger Staubach
Thanks! My Tippett collection is all in a binder, except for the graded RC, 2 autos, and the Holsum sheet of course. But the other 140 or so cards are all in a binder that I keep adding to.
Been too long since I updated this thread: 2 solid months! Been focusing on other projects, but now I've gone on a bit of Tippett binge. This is the first wave.
First, a great freebie from board member LargentCollector. This is a 1988 Panini sticker of Herschel Walker. That's #56 Tippett pancaking a blocker on the left side of the sticker
And then I picked up a limited edition set of 1992 Pro Line Profiles. You've all seen all of these photos earlier in the thread, including the "strangely erotic" pose we all laughed at. These are from the limited edition set handed out at the 1992 National. You've already seen all 9 photos, so I only scanned 4 of my favorites.
There are 2 main differences: first, the "regular" cards were numbered 415-423 in the larger set. The autographed parallels were numbered 1-9 for each player and the National embossed are numbered the same way, 1-9. The other difference is the embossment on the bottom right corner of each card, like this:
Stay tuned for more updates. I have 18 cards/stickers coming from Burbank, totaling 13 new ones I didn't have in my collection yet.
Thanks for sharing, Tom. I hope your recovery is going well. It doesn't surprise me that she's nice. I met Andre once and he was just the best. Still works for the Pats.
As promised, got a big bunch of Tippett stuff, from Burbank sports. All of it was stuff I didn't have before. Here it is.
1986 Topps sticker with Leroy Irvin. On this purchase, I finished my run of his Topps stickers, as you'll see later on.
1987 Fleer Team Action. That's Tippett on the right, #56.
1987 Topps UK. In case some of you weren't familiar with the issue, I included his base Topps from the same year so you can see the size difference. I like the team logo in the bottom right corner of the UK cards.
As promised, here is the rest of that Topps sticker run. All of these are from '88 Topps
You've already seen the Tippett sticker, but the Largent back was the last of the 4 back variations I needed.
Same kinda deal. You've seen the foil sticker w/ Dickerson, but I only had 1 of the 4 back variations. Here are the other 3 I needed. And that concludes my Tippett Topps sticker run.

I like them as well, but it seems only player collectors are interested. Complete sets go for next to nothing. Great combo on that one!

1988 Topps stickers. These all look the same, right? Other side:
There's one more variation I need, with Steve Largent on the other side. Again, if you have this available, please let me know.
Panini stickers. Top 3 are 1988. That's Carl Banks sharing the sticker with him. Bottom left '89, 1990 on the right.
Playing card from Parker Bros' Talking Football board game (1989). Dinged top left corner, but I'm not worried about it.
1991 Pro Set Spanish. I don't know why, but I dig his Iowa cap on the back.
As always, thanks for looking.

Me too. I've got a Bruschi jersey in the throwback style and I wear a cap all fall and winter with Pat Patriot snapping the ball. Dig it.

Also 89 and 90 panini stickers are available in a UK version that say American football on back and are a different color on back.
Also to Dan, Tippett is also on another Pinini sticker where he is making a tackle in an action card.
