Quick question regarding the cellos for someone that hasn't done this before. Are they presumed to be from a sealed box? does bbce randomly distribute the cellos from the sealed box? Just thinking it would be really cool to hit a star player on top (ie a 1981 joe montana), but figure it's unlikely if it's not a sealed box.
Davis, It has happened before. Some are know to have star power before hand and some are pleasant suprises. We did a group break a couple of years ago with a box of 75 cellos, regular issue and I hit a cello with a Yount rookie on back.
What the other guys said is right. No guarantees that you will get a high $ card on top or bottom but Steve has shown time and time again that he doesn't pull the best packs out. I know I got a 76 cello once with Brett on back and someone else got the yount on back. I also remember we busted a 80/81 bskt box and someone got a magic/bird rookie on back. There are countless examples.
Gotcha. Thanks guys. That's all good news. I was less concerned about BBCE pulling cellos with stars showing than if the group was breaking an unsealed cello box (meaning it could have been pieced together from the owner before BBCE).
Does BBCE wrap cellos or packs at all or do they just do boxes, racks and trays? All of the stuff I've gotten from BBCE has been pretty much wrapped boxes, so I'm not sure. Just cusious. Looking forward to this, thanks for setting it up!!!
<< <i>Guys, I did get an email back from Steve saying he would NOT be able to wrap any of the packs. Contractual obligations.

Mark,
Thanks for all the checking you do for people regarding questions. Maybe we should have an FAQ?? ha ha.....
I want to second the notion about stars on tops of racks and how Steve doesn't cherry pick packs. In a group rip 2 years ago, there was a bird magic rookie on the bottom of pack that someone got. In addition, in a group rip last year (or the year before), I got a 85 rack pack with a McGwire rookie on top.
For those of us who have never participated in one of these before, can someone point me in the right direction as to what the process is. From what I've gathered so far:
- stake your claim starting tonight in the official thread - availability is verified
- at some point we pay bbce directly - do we get an invoice? - bbce ships - all those who participate in the group break profit immensely regardless of if we decide to open or not. Right?
If someone could kindly fill in the blanks or post a link that would be great.

I'll take a stab based on what I've read in this thread already...

Right? No. If you open, odds are that you'd lose money. If you do not open, you're paying current market prices. If someone purchases and turns around and tries to sell packs on ebay, they'd likely lose money b/c ebay sellers won't garner a premium that we pay BBCE for the assurance that the packs are not tampered with.
thanks. By the way, I was trying to be funny on that last step where everyone profits. I may be new to the forum but I know how that works. For the record, if I do participate I'll be turning my purchase into a couple of bucks of cardboard before I get back from the mailbox.

I believe wholeheartedly that they are distributed randomly if they are present in the boxes (BBCE does not comb through them).
