I actually ordered 3 sets of these to put up. I'm more curious about how these may tone in those cardboard holders in the future. Lol. Plus they were cheap. Lol
This set presents a serious challange to the flippers out there. The 5 coin limit prevents anyone from accumulating a large stash without some serious efforts which as we see from the Goldmart offer also is not very financially rewarding! It may turn out to be a real sleeper for 2014. How many times will they crank up the presses to remint a coin which is not a big money maker at $10 a set? I doubt more than 2 or 3 runs is doable with the schedule they keep.
This add made me smile and appreciate the fact that I had the same limit as such a large dealer, outside of using every employee they have for an extra five sets...now I may send my 5 sets in for grading when I get them in the next couple weeks, or at least keep the box sealed for a future FS bomb on eBay
...they should have passed out flyers in the CC Casino's for this offer, as $25 to a degenerate junkie goes a lot further than a numismatist, Erik
I also wonder that since some may likely have this set before the ANA Chicago, how will this be handled by PCGS in regards to label??? The 4-coin silver and gold coin will be released at ANA, but this clad set will not? Sooooo, will PCGS offer a pre-ANA label release for coins submitted before Aug 5th???

I wasn't planning to order any, but decided to order 5, mainly due to the price point and on the chance that these will have some sort of appeal over time. Worth $50 to find out, imo.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
I did a test on the waiting room, though did not buy the Kennedy Set today. If you sign in before 11:45 AM and than after 11:45 AM just click on any item and you will automatically be placed in the waiting room. The website will not kick you off at 11:45 AM or ask you do sign in again. My wait time was 6 minutes but could have been sooner because I clicked on item at 11:47 AM because I was not watching the clock.
So much hate and discontent for these two clads coins early on in this thread. And now we have modest buying. I think these are sleepers. I thought this before today...no interest, limited fanfare and overshadowed by their golden brother. Collectors still believe there's no difference between these and the "circulated" versions that are offered in rolls and mint sets.
I think these 50th Anniversary clads will leave a unique mark as do the 1964 accented hair types, 1998 S Matte, SMS... Maybe not to the same degree. What we still don't know...will these 2014 halves have a deeper relief as the 1964's or will it be an un-modified or neo-original bust on a flat field? It's hard to determine from today's mint photos which lack detail. Also the zoom feature did not work for me. The Mint's presentation shows a 2014 P. From the photo it does not look to have the relief like the 1964's. That would be a disappointment.
I was surprised by the 5-coin limit. I saw here early on mintage estimates of 1.4 million and less. I doubt we'll hit 1 million let alone 500,000. The latter would be 100,000 unique household orders. Unlike the $5 HOF 50-coin order where dealers and flippers alike dog piled...a 5-coin limit is too much work for the average collector and dealer to find 10 "friends" to order a total of 50 coins.
Also, I think the Mint will abruptly stop making them, jmho. I think percentage-wise these will gain more than the gold and silver types.

edit: let me rephrase the question... How do you sign in twice without getting kicked off at 11:45? If they don't ask you to sign in again, then why do you have to sign in again after 11:45?

Interesting question
But there is no first pitch label planned, just a Chicago label. I suppose the coin number will be the big difference.
I imagine those at pcgs tomorrow get the first strike label and those sent to Chicago see the Chicago label.
50th Anniversary Kennedy Half-Dollar Silver Coin Collection (product code K13) - $99.95 The set is composed of four coins-one from each of the United States Mint's production facilities-struck in 90 percent silver in four finishes:
•One reverse proof coin from the United States Mint at West Point •One proof coin from the United States Mint at Philadelphia •One enhanced uncirculated coin from the United States Mint at San Francisco, and •One uncirculated coin from the United States Mint at Denver. Each coin features the 1964 Kennedy half-dollar coin design, but is inscribed with the year 2014. The encapsulated coins are secured in coin wells within an embossed leatherette-type folder that includes the same image of John F. Kennedy that appears on the coins in this set, with patriotic imagery of stars and stripes. The removable capsules allow visibility of both sides of the coins, which are housed on packaging that can be displayed as a trifold or stored and protected by an outer sleeve. The United States Mint logo is on the front of the folder, and the Department of the Treasury seal is on the back. A booklet with information and images about the design of the 1964 Kennedy half-dollar coin and a certificate of authenticity accompany each set.
The United States Mint is scheduled to release this in the fall of 2014.
<<Each set contains one 2014-dated Kennedy Half Dollar each struck at the Philadelphia and Denver Mint facilities in standard copper nickel clad composition. The coins both carry the original 1964 portrait design on the obverse, making them distinct and separate issues from previously released coins.>>
I can not read this statement any other way than these are the "original" 1964 design and "distinct and separate" from any "previously released coins."
In other words, I think they used the 1964 galvano which did not have the changes recommend by Mrs. Kennedy. (An intermediate model was modified for these.) Thus we have the original Kennedy half never before seen by us in coined form.
The illustrations show the deep hair part which was part of the original design. (Strangely enough that matches the current production design of 2014 and other recent years.)
I look forward to figuring out what the "addition hair highlights" are.
It appears to me there is going to be a rare coin in this 2 piece set...There will be more D's than P's.....As the D's will also be minted in the 4 piece set...Makes the P a keeper.

I was away from home yesterday, and forgot about these sets until this morning. I'm glad the flippers are staying away, and I ordered 3 sets. I remember when the first CN clad halves were issued in 1971, and how disappointed I was with the modified design. It got even worse in 1992, with the shrunken portrait and heavily accented hair. I'm actually looking forward to seeing a clad Kennedy in the original sculpt. I'll be surprised if sales reach 500,000; 250,000-300,000 seems more likely,
OK, I ordered 4 sets based on the comments on this thread. It seems the dealers are not dismissing this set also. 70K is a lot of sets so far. I wonder if they will stop minting at 100K.
To be clear on my previous post. I signed in only once before 11:45 AM and was not kicked off the mint website after 11:45 AM. I just clicked on any item after 11:45 AM and was immediately placed in the waiting room. Now if everyone does this at the same time on the next mint offering, I am sure we will crash the web site, and the mint will fix the glitch.
To me, the mints description is a little confusing. Are the coins going to have the 1964 obverse is is it just a picture on the folder? I ordered 3 sets thinking they will have a different design from the regular mints.
<<To me, the mints description is a little confusing. Are the coins going to have the 1964 obverse is is it just a picture on the folder? I ordered 3 sets thinking they will have a different design from the regular mints.>>
Yes, I am confused. I find the situation contradictory. The folder shows a a large head with a deep hair part. This could match the original galvano. This would be an unique treatment. The statement was made that all special coins will have the same portrait but different than production 2014's. Yet pictures of the gold one show a much fainter hair part similar to the 1964's.
My previous comments here should best be taken with a grain of salt. I don't know till I see the actual coins.
This special uncirculated two-coin set was designed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy half-dollar first released in 1964. Each coin features the Kennedy portrait design on the obverse (heads) with the year 2014. Something special for any collector or the perfect gift!
The set includes two 2014 Kennedy half-dollars with uncirculated finishes, one each from the United States Mint at Philadelphia and Denver.
The packaging includes a coin card and folder. On the front of the folder is the United States Mint logo with the words “50th Anniversary Kennedy Half-Dollar Uncirculated Coin Set.” The coins are encapsulated in a separate card in the folder and the obverse (heads) and reverse (tails) of each coin are visible. When the coin card is flipped over from the front to the back, the text and reverse designs appear upright.
The front of the folder includes an enlarged partial image of the obverse of the 1964 Kennedy half-dollar, along with the number “5” and the 1964 obverse coin image to represent the “0,” representing “50”. The inside of the folder includes an enlarged partial image of the reverse of the 1964 Kennedy half-dollar, smaller coin images of the obverse and reverse of the coin, and information regarding the 50th anniversary of this coin design.
Coin design descriptions, a Certificate of Authenticity, coin specifications, and the official Department of the Treasury seal are printed on the back of the card containing the two coins.
The designs on the coins replicate the portrait on the 1964 design:
Obverse: The design shows a portrait of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the youngest-ever-elected president. United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Gilroy Roberts based this profile on a portrait prepared for Kennedy’s presidential medal. Roberts created his original 1964 design shortly after Kennedy’s assassination.
Reverse: The design is based on the presidential seal and was done by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Frank Gasparro. It consists of a heraldic eagle with a shield on its breast, holding a symbolic olive branch and a bundle of 13 arrows. A ring of 50 stars surrounds the design, which gives this coin the distinction of having more stars than any other United States coin ever produced for circulation.
Note: All other United States Mint 2014 Kennedy half-dollars that are not included in the K13 and K14 sets share the common reverse described above, while the obverse features a strong but simple portrait of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy and the inscriptions LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST.
