You might want to replace "wife" with "spouse" in the title, as I have several serious female customers (and I'm sure other dealers do too).

Anyway, when I show my wife a new acquisition (which I rarely if ever do any more), she says something like: "Oooooooooh! Is that rare? What is that coin worth?"

I love her dearly, but she is not very good at feigning interest in something she could care less about. image

If it was out of the recent Eric P. Newman sales, I'd say she might have case. I kept bidding in those things, and blown out of the water big time.

Maybe there were some bargains in there, but if there were I missed them with stuff that interested me.

Correction: she came upstairs and patiently looked at four coins. Then, said that it was time for dinner. I can live with that.

My answer is the same as it was in the other thread.

Well, first of all...I wouldn't tell her how much I paid for it or how much I think it's worth.

Second, when I show it to her, she would probably say "That's nice. What's it worth?" Going back to my first point above, my response would be something like "Not much. I just think it's cool because it's from the 18th Century (or some other reason)."

I think we must use a variation of that system. As my wife once explained it to me "What's yours is mine, and what's mine is mine".
