Good luck with that, Mark~the last pack Mike sold was the one he bought after recess in 1976, LOL..

Next up is a group of five 1974 Topps baseball rack packs. I really like 74 racks, as they are tough to find and also feature a one-year header card design~a blue header card with the new promo: All 660 Cards in One Series eblazoned on front. 1974, of course, marked the first full season in which Topps released all cards from the set in one issue, after a trial run late in 1973. A not uncommon anomaly for 1974 racks is the appearance of the same card on top or bottom in both the middle and far sections of the rack, something you'd very rarely if ever see from 1975 forward, as Topps implemented much stricter sequencing for the packaging of rack packs after 1974.

Steve Carlton is on top of one of the raw 74 cellos and Vida Blue is on back of one of the graded racks (Santo traded card is also on back 2x on one of these racks). The two GAI graded 74 racks were from a full box that was submitted to GAI~I believe I have one more GAI graded 74 rack within the cert # range for this particular rack box of 24. I think I also have one with Bench on top, especially for Mark image but that one is in storage, so I will have to check my records.

Love the Yogi/Stone rack! 1974 was the first year I bought heavily. I killed about 1000 wax packs but never saw a rack or cello until 1975.

Great stuff Tim. Let's see the 75 mini stuff especially with Schmidt on top or bottom. Those packs kill me since I passed on them waiting for empty promises instead.
I like seeing them especially the mini that has Luzinksi on top. Just bitter sweet I guess....

Dang, all these pics sure do get the juices flowing... my rack run starts at '75, but now I'm hungry to extend that down to '72 and beyond. Once again, great collection and thanks for sharing Tim.

    Thanks again, guys!

Tony, here's a mini rack for you~these are my very favorite issue from all 75 mini product, and the toughest to find. Even Charlie Conlon had just 3 at the time of his estate sale.

    Beautiful Tim!

Now that is nice. Even though the GAI holder is huge the added protection is a nice bonus.

    Tim,

Love the 74 blue header AND the 75 mini rack! I don't think I've ever seen one for sale. How rare are they??

    Thanks, Jeremy and Tony!

The 75 mini rack is (IMO) the toughest rack to find of any from the 1970s. I see one come up for sale maybe once every other year. I've managed to pick up a few over the past 15 years, and am always looking for more (hint hint, Tony, image ). The PSA 9 mini Yount RC in my set was pulled from a mini rack I actually ripped a of couple years ago. To give you an idea on the scarcity of the 75 mini rack, when the Conlon collection was auctioned off by REA a few years back, his estate had 20+ cases of mini wax, 3+ cases of mini cellos and a grand total of three single mini racks.

Great collection. Love seeing all of those 78 racks. How many do you have total (78s)?

    Thanks,

Thanks, David! 78 is one of my favorite years, and I've always been a rack pack fan. I'd say about 5 boxes total. Thankfully, the vast majority were acquired back when they were going for $50 or less...the good old days! image
