Coin collecting is a subculture.....Tattooing is also a subculture. Interesting to see the comments when whey collide.
I think coins and paper money are a great source for tattoo ideas. I agree that trying to render the entire coin looks a little wonky on the skin. But these are still done by hand, the great American folk art.
Not a coin but from a from my favorite symbol/medal-------- Wheel of Transformation. I get a lot of positive feedback on this one. MJ

This thread really drives home one way in which colecting coins and collecting tattoos ought to share one very important rule....always seek eye appeal !!!
Finding a tattoo artist who really is one is as important as finding a coin dealer who has the very best stuff. Getting rid of the mistakes can be painful !
<< <i>I guess tattoos are getting more mainstream. A few years ago coin tattoo threads were zapped. >>
If they are coin related I have no problem with a thread showing pics of coin tattoos---not that I'd ever get one.

You would be amazed at how many people have them at the Orlando theme parks these days, including women. "Sleeved" (tattoo that covers the entire arm) used to be a big deal. Now it's almost common place among people who have more than one tattoo. On my last trip to Universal, a couple weeks ago, some people had had a lot of the tattoo work done.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I can't stand the sight of blood. Espeically my own. I respect the artist, but I feel sorry for the membrane.
P.S. I hate typos. I'd be a lousy tattoo artist ESPECIALLY BAD
Also, one of the griffins from the reverse of this Mexican coin would be an awesome tattoo!
