A star for being original? Part 2

BodinBodin Posts: 1,022 ✭✭✭
Started on this thread....

I started this as a "part 2" so that the pics weren't buried in the OP.
These pics were the best I could do with the time I had today, I just didn't want to put off posting any longer. I know, focus issues, etc.... Love to hear your thoughts on the coin:
Bottom line, I'm happy with my purchase.

Not that the obverse matters much....

My first reaction is I don't like the green. Second reaction is old retoning after an old cleaning.
    Probably got this all wrong.

Amazing that the seller would use such lousy, colorless pics.

    Good to see!

I bid on all of them but forgot to go back and snipe.
This is the only one I won (hasn't arrived yet):

Thanks for the nice comments everybody. It also has some nice die polishing and probably looked great in BU. I still like it now.

Very nice. It's unusual to see Peace dollars with toning like that.

The second picture is much better, FWIW.

Is that a planchet flaw, first U in PLURIBUS? Doesn't look like an ordinary bag ding.

    Great pick up!

Congratulations on a GREAT pick up. Every once and a while what you purchase off a pic on eBay turns out to be way better than you thought. The color is SUPER for a Peace Dollar.

    Aha!

    Now that's better.

Still not entirely my cuppa tea, but I kinda like it. A lot more than I predicted I would, anyway.

It looks WAY better than the eBay pix, just like I suspected.

    Nice job.

I like it and agree with the Star designation.

Mine arrived today and it is somewhat listless and boring. Brownish gold with perhaps a speckle of red here and there, but overall an unattractive coin.

Awesome. I'm glad it looks better than the ebay pic. Deserving of a star? Yes!

I've changed my mind after looking more carefully at the color dispersal and surfaces.
    Original and attractive. image

Knowing I am not a fan of tarnish, take this as an honest question... is that really tarnish? In the pictures it looks more like something is deposited on the surface.... just an honest question and not meant to disparage the coin.... Cheers, RickO

Ricko, please quit posting in topics about toning. It's hideously old by now.

It's a circulated coin with subdued surfaces so you can't expect the same toning progression to occur as on a uncirculated example.
