I was out of town this weekend, near the site where I have found a number of old coins. I haven't found a silver coin at this site in almost two years and probably wouldn't have bothered going there; however, I wanted to try out the Manticore at this site.

The Manticore didn't find anything old; but, I did alright with my Equinox 600. On Saturday I dug up a 1943 Mercury dime, a 1936 Buffalo nickel, and a wheat cent. On Sunday I dug up a 1941 Mercury dime and two wheat cents from 1919.

I haven't been detecting lately; but, I did sell my Minelab Manticore today, never quite fell in love with it. I really liked the ergonomics of the Manticore though, and just recently bought a Minelab Equinox 700 to see how the ergonomics compare.

I like how the Equinox 700 handles and have decided to buy an Equinox 700 upper shaft and arm cuff to retrofit my Equinox 600. If anybody wants an Equinox 700 that has never been used outside, just put together once and swung briefly inside the house, let me know and I'll give you a great deal on it, still in the box with full warranty. This retrofit should improve the ergonomics of my Equinox 600 enough that I will no longer need my Vanquish 540.

Even more crazy, I was offered an amazing deal on a group of 8 new in the box Equinox 600s, and I bought them all. If anybody wants an even better deal on a brand new Minelab Equinox 600, let me know, lol.

I have no self control when buying metal detectors. I also bought an old Minelab Explorer SE the other day that will be arriving later this week.

In other news, the Garrett Vortex was announced today. Don't think I'll be buying one of those unless the VX9 can somehow out hunt an Equinox or Manticore. I have to draw the line somewhere, lol.

I wish I could buy one of those, but I can't buy things online right now. Maybe in a few years if you decide to hold them that long.

I was at my out of town site yesterday for about two hours with my Equinox 600. The retrofitted shaft and arm cuff worked great. The machine was correctly balanced, and I didn't need a strap on the arm cuff. I managed to find two Buffalo nickels, 1916 and 1920-D.

On Saturday, June 29th, I was back at my out of town detecting site for three hours. I found a very worn 1919 Mercury dime and a 1927 wheat cent with my retrofitted Equinox 600.

I visited one of my hunted out sites today and dug three wheat cents with my retrofitted Equinox 600.

Today I took my Equinox 600 to my favorite Chicago park from 2022. I found a 1940 Mercury dime and six wheat cents.

My girlfriend wanted to take a walk to the nearby hunted out park today. I decided to take my favorite Etrac with me and managed to find a wheat cent plus a few modern coins.

I got off work early today and tried four new locations. Only the last site was any good. I dug a 1939 Mercury dime, a 1962-D dime, two wheat cents, and a WWII aircrew badge made of sterling silver. The aircrew badge is bent into a near circle shape and almost looks like a huge ring.

Just a wheat cent today at one of my hunted out sites.

Today I went back again to my favorite Chicago park from 2022 with my Equinox 600. I found 4 silver dimes, 12 wheat cents, and an 1899 Indian cent. The silver dimes are 1946-D, 1948-D, 1952-D, and 1956-D.

The coins were all found in an area that I have searched multiple times in the past; however, the ground was very dry today. I think the dryness may have suppressed iron falsing and let me hear the coins.

Somebody's dog was running loose today in the park. The idiot dog managed to get tangled up in the cord of my headphones and ruined them. Fortunately I had a spare pair of headphones with me. They are the cheap ones that come with a Vanquish or Equinox 600; but, I think the sound quality is surprisingly good.

That’s a nice bevy of wheats and silver. Seems like the pup was overly playful or even aggressive. Somebody would likely be buying me new headphones.

That seems like exactly what my dogs would do if you let them run free. I would hate to be the owner.

That’s a good productive hunt. I would not have been to happy with the dog though.

I haven't had much opportunity to go detecting lately; however, I was near my favorite out of town site yesterday and spent a few hours there. I found a high condition 1937 Mercury dime with the Equinox 600 plus a total of six wheat cents, three of which were found with my favorite Etrac. Two of the wheat cents were together in the same hole, 1919 and 1942.

I haven't had time to research any new sites. Today I went back to my favorite Chicago park from 2022. I found three silver dimes and four wheat cents with my retrofitted Equinox 600. The silver dimes are 1943-D Mercury, 1947, and 1963-D.

Finding three silvers on one hunt is a great day. Good to see the parks in the Windy City are still yielding good finds. Looking forward to the pics!

That’s a good haul from any public park. Were they all good, solid signals or obscured by something such as iron?

They were all faint but repeatable. The only way to hear them is to move slowly and set the Equinox on high recovery speed.

I wasn't in the mood to go metal detecting yesterday. My muscles were already sore; but, the weather was 60 degrees, and mild temperatures like that might not come again until Spring.

I went to my favorite Chicago park from 2022. My theory that I was consistently finding silver there due to the ground being dry, and the dryness providing better separation for unmasking, may be correct. The ground was damp yesterday, and I didn't find any silver.

I dug 6 wheat cents and an old Chicago Temperance Union badge or pin. I believe it is from the 1890s as it mentions an October 10, 1894 parade. For those of you who aren't familiar, temperance was the political movement to ban alcohol in the United States, culminating in the Volstead Act of 1919 and Prohibition in the 1920s.

This park is an interesting site. Most of my finds there have been 1940s drops; but, every once in a while an 1890s coin or relic turns up.

Banning alcohol wouldn't have been my political cause; but, I do think this is an interesting relic.

Once again, the weather was way above normal temperature on a Sunday. Today I went to my favorite Chicago park from 2022 and found 2 silver dimes plus 10 wheat cents with my Equinox 600. The dimes are 1941 Mercury and 1962-D.

About an hour before dark some guy showed up with a Minelab Manticore. When I asked him which program he was using, he said it was a borrowed machine and that he had never used it before. I doubt that he found anything good before the sun went down. Manticore is not an easy machine to master, even for an experienced user.

Freezing temperatures arrive later this week. My season may be over, and I'm glad that I got out today.
