Would you rather own a OGH Morgan in MS64 Gold CAC or MS65

If the MS-64 graded coin involved looks the same or nicer than the MS-65 then I would want the MS-64.

If the MS-65 looks nicer and it has a green sticker and not much more expensive than the MS-64 then I would want the MS-65.

Too many unknown variables here such as price of the two coins, quality of the coins, etc etc to give a concrete answer here.

This is coming from a collector who is well known for adoring gold stickered OGH slabbed coins.

I probably now own as many gold stickered slabbed coins as anyone else out there but I am not a slave to them. I do consider them as no brainers to own provided you do not overpay for them or better yet, make them yourself!

I would pick the coin with the best eye appeal.

assuming both coins are solid for the grade, I would take the
64 on the OGH, I just like old holders, couldnt care less about CAC stickers

I would like to own the nicer of the two coin, grade and/or sticker aside.

I would go for something Seated or with Flowing hair too many Morgans too search through. And the design don't light the fire anymore.image

OGH Morgan in MS64 Gold CAC assuming both coins are the same date.

If it were the same coin in either package, I cannot think of a scenario in which I would prefer ANY coin in Grade (X) in a new holder over Grade (X minus 1) in an OGH with a gold sticker.

Actually, assuming it was the same coin in either package then it would be irrelevant to me which slab it came in. The coin would be set free as soon as it became mine anyway.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

I answered once with a short answer but to be more specific :

Yes, I would rather own an OGH Morgan in MS 64 Gold CAC , or MS 65.
That's the easies question I ever got here. So let me add intrigue: Has CAC seen the MS 65 ?

I would pick the coin I liked better taking the price into account.

To me the super premiums that some collectors pay for gold beans are nuts. At the last FUN show I saw a mid 19th century copper coin that was graded MS-62, Brown with a gold bean. The coin is fairly common in Mint State. The asking price was $450. If the coin had upgraded to MS-65, which would have been a "maxed out" grade, the $450 price would have still been on the high retail level. To me that makes no sense.

Is it fair to interpret the question this way?

"Would you rather have your Morgan dollar...
    1) In an OGH MS64
    2) In a modern holder MS64 with a gold CAC
    3) In a modern holder MS65 with no sticker

It is the same Morgan dollar."

This avoids answers like, I'd take the nicest one, the cheapest one, etc.

In essence, I believe all of us want to discuss the coins , where the "value" lies, now to acquire or how to even be "accepted" in the "group". But look guys, most of us are "common collectors".

The plastic, the market, the industry…. That's there looking for OUR support. And this is the crux. We cannot demonize or vilify those who set the trends. We have to get to the horizon before them. image "Have fun with your coins " Hasn't that always been "THE MANTRA " ?

Let your eyes be the judge for what your wallet can afford and if you have to reach a little, REACH. It's not bad at all.

    Whichever coin has better surfaces...

Am I assuming the MS65 coin didn't CAC?

I would much rather own a coin whereas another collector thinks, "this coin is under graded" rather than, "this grade is a gift".
Adding the gold CAC just makes my decision even easier.

The coins should be fairly close, so I would like the one I think is better in terms of eye appeal for my tastes....buy the coin, not the plastic or sticker

I just peel off and collect the stickers and throw the coins in the garbage. They're way too heavy and not as shiny as the stickers.

Now we're getting down to the nitty gritty. The meat and potatoes. Show the coin.

I would pick the one I liked the most - since I do not sell coins, stickers are meaningless to me. It would be the one with the least tarnish - preferably none....Cheers, RickO

I don't collect Morgans, so I guess the question becomes, which is worth more?

I would venture to guess a 64 with gold sticker sells for more than a 65. So I guess the 64.

I also like the old holder design better than the new one. However, if it's a rattler, then I'd rather have the new holder.

The only reason I can see to pick the 65 would be if you are playing the set registry numbers. Or of course if there is significant difference with the coin in hand.
