Any report on the available bullion at FUN show?

Does anyone have any information to share on the availability and/or pricing seen on bars rounds etc. at the FUN show? Thinking of going tomorrow but would mostly be shopping for gold/silver bullion.

I have no idea. First of all, I would never purchase bullion products at National Coin shows. Normally, they are not competitively priced. I usually wait for a National bullion dealer to have a "sale" on bullion products, which btw occurs quite frequently. Good luck in your search.

Generally agree with you but you can find some reasonably priced older bars at major shows and you don't need to pay for shipping. The problem with buying older secondary market bars from the national bullion dealers is you get whatever they grab out of inventory which might be a nice clean bar but more likely will be a beat up bar with a lot of cuts, scratches, and other marks.

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

  • Thanks for the info. Mostly wanted to take in the experience since I haven't been to this show yet and only live an hour and a half away. I started out as a coin collector as a youth in the early 1970's. Still do a little coin shopping but have been buying bullion since I finally found a source around 2006. Didn't run across much in my early days. I have a LCS that usually has a good supply but is a little low right now.

I think I'll run over there to see what's up.

What are you talking about? The are always dealers willing to cut loose of bullion at shows. Especially huge shows like FUN where there are many dealers lacking the staying power to hold out for the highest premium. It pays to get to know the room on the first day and see what people are buying and selling at and it's possible to even buy from one dealer and walk it across the room and make a few bucks while they are stuck in their booths. And there is always a dealer needing to cut loose to cover a check for some other deal or just got into some super right at sometime, you just have to ask around. Always more than I could buy anyway.......

The first time I went to FUN I was awestruck at the amount of metal offered for sale. Put in perspective for me just how common gold and silver disks are. The place is awash in bullion and saying there just isn't any deals is just not a blanket statement I would stand behind.

You can definitely find some deals at a large show like FUN..... unless you are looking for something in the middle of a flipping fever or hot market. Definitely worth shopping there...Cheers, RickO

    +1

I agree 100%, there is a ton more traffic & major deals going on. You can NOT be bashful or wear your feelings on your sleeve image Ask a simple yes or no question when the dealer is NOT busy or it is your turn.

  • Bought 3 of the 10oz CMI Constitution Mint Ingot shaped bars for $205 each in the original shrink wrap. Those sell well on eBay. Not a bad price. There was a relatively new Company selling 10oz bars for .55c over spot and 1oz rounds/bars for .65c over spot. I forget the name on the bars but they are from south Florida. Silvertown had 10oz bars, if I remember right at around $1.50 over spot.

There were some BU ASE's at $2.50 over spot, various dates in the 2000's. Plenty of silver there.

Last 10 oz CMI bar that sold on eBay, sold for $230...with free s&h..I suspect the seller must have purchased it when silver was in the $15 range, otherwise there was no profit after fees for him. ASE's for $2.50 over spot is a decent price along with $.55 and $.65 over spot for no name bars or rounds. Silvertowne bars for $1.50 over spot is ok.

u kiddin me???!!! u r so non chalant with the use of "decent"...
2.50 over for ase retail is way better than decent, thats best price ive seen, and way under the major onliners, easily and f2f to boot...
also the 10 oz buy was a great buy also, the sealed wrap will get more on ebay thats just the way it is whether right or wrong...
if u r keeping them even better it was a great buy...

always gotten best deals/buys at shows... edit to omit state of arizona...lol

    Agree, thanks.

So OPA, I guess no price was good enough unless I got it below spot. The 10oz bars bought when BID was at $20.15 which makes it .35c over spot isn't a decent deal? Ok, boy wish I hadn't bought those now.image
