This might be interesting. The old dogs here would not agree that it is a "real" you suck without Russ or Fatman's stamp. I got a couple you suck lights for silver from bank finds, I don't count those as the real you suck though.

This is a spectacular die clash found on a 1912 Liberty Head half dollar. Even though the coin is in a lower grade (VG-08), the clash marks left by the transfer of design elements onto the opposing dies are extremely clear. It will more than likely rank as one of the strongest if not the strongest die clash found on U. S. coins.

the you suck designation has been define previously but i don't recall the specifics. maybe we should post what the true requirements are for a you suck? i also think saying someone sucks and issuing an official you suck are 2 different things.

i'm not sure any purchases i've made qualify. does buying a coin with a high rarity rating for $114 and selling for $1200 qualify? seems like a you suck should demand more than that.

Found several of these Doubled Die Franklins in some "unopened" proof sets. So much for never finding anything in unopened proof sets.

I think the You Suck has been granted for this one. A true Cherrypick of Heritage Auctions, which sat unrecognized as to it's extremely rare variety....all the dealers and all the collectors....didn't catch the multiple misattributions. 1688 American Plantations Token Newman 2-G Transposed Arms. Breen knew of six, Whitman and PCGS say 8-12 known....but auction archives do not exist to support the higher number. Talking dollars, I paid $1290 for this. On the PCGS price guide, XF40 is 17K and AU53 is 25K. I won't be selling this but it will certainly go a long way towards completing the AmPlant series. A difficult challenge but possible given time money and luck! image. image

i remember some figures being thrown around and i'm not saying this is the one but i recall something about $10k being a minimum for a true you suck.

I did not "steal" this coin by any means pricewise, but when I saw the sharpness of the strike on this 1850-C gold dollar, I knew it was a keeper. When I posted pictures of it, one specialist collector, who is way ahead of me in his expertise when it comes to Charlotte gold coins, made some envious comments about it.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

There should be some old threads with the guidelines. When I got mine a few years ago, I understood it to be finding a coin valued or sold for 1000 times the purchase price. Mine was for the 1918/7-D Buff that came out of a bulk lot of partial dates purchased for 15 cents each. Later graded G-4 by PCGS.

Great stuff everyone! I think its hard to narrow down a set of guidelines since the size of the cost and retail value is technically unlimited. Not to say the differences in the series we all collect. I am just glad you all found great coins unbeknownst to whoever you got it from and they exceeded you expectations - and ours too!
