Scammer among us

I posted in the Buy, Sell and Trade section that I wanted to purchase AU58 certified commems. Well, I received a response from a new boardmember who tried to sell me a coin on November 15th that he "owned." It was an Oregon commem, and I had seen it on Ebay, where I ended up purchasing the coin. Well tonight he tried to sell me an Isabella for $420 that is listed on Ebay for $370. As in November, he "has several of them." Do the new scammers not know that all of us have internet access and, if we want a certain coin that we track them? This guy has irritated me!

no scams i flip coins for a profit !!
Sad he thinks he can come to these boards and try to run a scam by claiming he "has several."
Needless to say, he is on my ignore list.
You should out him!

That same idiot pm'd me trying to sell me an Ngc pf70er for 2500 instead of the Pcgs pr70fs for 3750 I was looking for.
Apparently, brain trust did "some reading" and found that ER is "the same"!! Quote "I thought (so)"!!
I was patient then, but seeing games are being played elsewhere does not sit well with me at all.
User is on ignore now.
<< <i>Broadstruck, I'll have to take an extra blood pressure pill tonight!
Well hope you feel better
Just went to my message page and added him to the Ignore User slot and poof be gone!

Hmmm. Since when is a "mistruth" not a scam?

Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.
<< <i>
upon further review of my PMs beyond describing the last pm
first it started with having a PF70 a coin in package that he thinks would for sure grade PF70 and a NGC PF70ER
then has one pcgs FS pr69 for 2400
asks about other platinum wanted
then that last PM
similar MO tried on me.
I guess if one wants to put down the pitchforks and torches, then my advice is to use google and check web sites for the coins you are looking for if seanthecoincollector comes calling as it seems to indicate they are findable out there.
I personally don't like the game that is being played, especially with that last PM trying to convince me NGC PF70ER is the same as PCGS PR70FS

Just a bit off topic, right? Just a bit.......
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
I would think someone could give you a better deal on the BST vs Ebay and its fees. If the guy has it on the Bay for 370, then if I wanted the item (and it was someone reliable who would honor the deal and ship the item) then a counteroffer in the 325-350 range. I have no idea as to his logic on the 420 quote assuming its the same item, people bounce all over the place on quotes sometimes. My impression is you feel he was trying to get to you possibly because of your collecting interest. I certainly sympathize. I am sitting here at 5am with my morning coffee and a poptart reading this and my stomach does not feel so hot reading this thread lol.

Now that's funny. Off topic but a little humor never hurts.
I don't mind doing a BST transaction with a new member but a little common sense is in order here. If a new member approached me with a coin that I might be interested in, I would require that he send me the coin first so that I can see it first before I send payment. After all, he hasn't earned membership in the circle of trust yet.

I agree with you guys. I was 1/3 joking about the outrage with my picture.
Is that not just a lazy/wannabe version of every dealers business model? How many dealer buy on HA and sell to customers? Same thing?

<< <i>To play devils advocate I vote clueless wanna bee want list vest pocket dealer/flipper over scammer, did he rip anyone off or did he merely assume he deserved a commission for finding a coin someone needed no matter how easy it was to find, because making money finding coins for people is bad, right? >>
No kidding...
<< <i>selling what you pretend to have is a scam. You should tell him "check's on the way" and a week later let him know you changed your mind. This way he will have already purchased it for resale and will have possession of it when he finds the next buyer.

IMHO a scam would be to take money and not deliver a coin or not deliver it as described. If he can deliver a coin at the price you both agree to, then a valid deal was made. However, I can't believe that he thinks anyone here is going to post on the BST that they are looking for a certain coin and not first have looked around.

That's not going to work as when they are really small time they need your funds to make the purchase. This happened to me when I was a relatively new member on these boards as I was offered a AU58 1929-S SLQ and sent the guy (members no longer active and can't remember his username) a paypal payment. I never saw the coin during my web searches but saw the full details when I opened the parcel. He never repackaged it, just taped a sheet of paper atop with new to: & from: addresses and forgot to remove the dealer invoice of what he paid and when it was purchased inside.
<< <i>Not really a scam. But definitely annoying. >>
Ditto here.
BTW, I had never noticed that from the PM screen you can ignore certain users.

<< <i>That's called trading. Some are just too lazy to look around themselves to buy something and others can take advantage of it. Some might look at this as a finders fee for the time spent locating an item for someone else the way a dealer would do for a client although ebay is kind of a lazy mans way to do it. >>
Good point. A little while back, I offered a finder's fee for a coin that I was, well, trying unsuccessfully to find. In the listing, I excluded eBay, Heritage, and the dealer sites that I frequent. Otherwise, whether the finder finds the coin at a local dealer, his SDB, or an auction or dealer site I never heard of, so long as he was able to deliver the coin, why should I care from where he (legally) acquired it?

Maybe annoying , perhaps a person I would avoid to buy or sell to but scammer I do not know and can not say as a fact.
I hope the mods will remove this one sided post. This type of follow the leader grab the pitch forks post is one of the worst aspects of this forum.
<< <i>where is the scam here. What did anyone loose? Was there a theft? This post should not be permitted it passes judgement and brands a person a scammer without proof.

I am going to disagree with you. A number of people, including myself, have commented that we do not believe that this is necessarily a scam.
Edit: Perhaps we can agree that he is not exactly a straight shooter.
