Am I a COIN DOCTOR ? Poll

I took a handful of empty 1956-1958 Treasury Mint Set holders and filled them up with white coins,

then took them down to my vacation home in Florida and stashed them in the attic.

Is your attic loaded with sulfur? image

You stored them in old holders because you care about the environment. You were recycling, reusing. You placed them in the attic because it was secure and tidy.

No, you are not a coin doctor. You are a model citizen.

If the experiment fails, you and tumuss can go spend them at Teasers.
  • Reusing double mint set holders will result in some toning but nothing like the coins originally housed in them. If you ask me they are all out of juice so to speak. I like buying brand new wayte Raymond boards and filling those babies up! In the right conditions they can make some pure monsters (not like I've done this image).

Exactly....those who posted intent/intentions have nailed it. You intend for them to rapidly tarnish and have placed them in an environment to achieve this goal.....Therefore, you are a coin doctor......hang out your shingle, you are open for business. Cheers, RickO

Yes, I believe you are an 'MD'.

Personally, I've dipped but I've never 'doctored'.

Why make the differentiation? To quote RickO, GC50 "intend[s] for them to tarnish rapidly" which is the acceleration of a natural chemical process. Dipping is the removal of tarnish, a mechanical and arguably unnatural process. If anything, dipping should be doctoring and putting coins in sulfurous holders should be resourceful. Answer depends both on what the coins look like "after", and what you do to "market" them.

Doctoring? No. Way too imprecise. Sounds like playing around. Real doctors don't wait that long.

When you go to sell them are you going to sell them as orignal?
Or are you going to give full disclosure, about the switch?
