I didn't get the memo about them Sacagawea Dollars...

So I went the bank to get some dollar coins and for the first time, I received a circulated mixture. Of the 100 coins that I received, I got 74 presidential dollars, 24 Sacagawea dollars and 2 Susan B. Anthony's.

Which brings me to this post... First, I did not know there were different reverse's for the Sac... and Second, they are not dated? I thought that was one of the mint requirements that they were dated and mint marked.

I received one of the 2010 versions and one of the 2012 versions.

They're dated and mintmarked on the edge. Sounds like you got some of
    the "Native American" dollars.

In the Red Book we catalog the Sacagawea dollar as one type, which ran
from 2000 to 2008. Then there's the Native American dollars of 2009 to
    date.

The "Sacky Janes" all have the flying eagle reverse by Tom Rogers. The Native
American dollars have a different reverse design each year.

I like the 2012 design with the Native American and horse, and the 2013
"Treaty With the Delawares" --- one of very few coins to feature a wild turkey!

I concur on the neat reverses...some of the better designs in the past few years IMO....better than a lot of the quarters! But I will admit when producing that many variations it is tough to hit a homer every time. Some are just better than others to me!

I like the Sacs. I think that they're the closest thing we have to a Modern Large Cent. (And worth about the same relative value as well.) image

Makes no difference how cool the reverse might be...NO design can overcome the complete and utter hideousness of that baby crap yellow color.

To me, this is the nicest US coin design of the last 50 years. I agree that the color/metal combination leaves plenty to be desired, but the design is classic American. Besides that, she's a native of Idaho and that does me proud. I grew up hunting & camping near her birthplace. It remains one of the least populated regions of the lower 48. The area is beautiful, beautiful timeless country.

    Edited to add:

Hmmmm. I need to re-shoot this. I can do better in terms of sharpness/focus.

I agree that the whole series is well designed. They should have made them out of silver (about 1/5 oz), with a face value of $10 and placed them into circulation. image

Funny you should say this because in my opinion they age horribly. They are very ugly once all toned out and look almost copper. Sad.

That would fix the issue with the banks having so many of them and no one using them... Though that would not fix the issue with people not hording them...lol. But ya, if you want to make a coin that's a hit with the public... add some silver to it.

    Just sayin.

I'm surprised, early on in this thread, those who referenced the edge, didn't say look at the third side of the coin.

I'm with that different description decision.

Here is how the law describes them:
    (r) Redesign and Issuance of Circulating $1 Coins Honoring Native Americans and the Important Contributions Made by Indian Tribes and Individual Native Americans in United States History.—
