The first piece is a Braslow Confederate cent from the early 1960s that was struck from transfer dies. Braslow was a coin dealer who had a some pieces made like this. The Confederate cent in various metals was his most famous creation. It is pretty much as struck and would grade MS-66.
The Lincoln cent looks have a few minor marks, but it's been my experience that the slab grade for material from this era is higher than my grade. I'd call it MS-65, Red, but I imagine that the slab grade would be MS-66, red. I've found that I usually have to go at least MS or PR 67 to get a modern coin that I like. For the very modern stuff, for registry set purposes, PR-69 is usually my grade.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
I agree with Bills analysis and grades. The Bashlow is part of a group of five I bought (eBay 2008) each wrapped in tissue in an envelope. The seller had bought them by mail in the late '60s. NGC has slabbed a lot of these with generous grades. The '09 is my "best pick" from a OBW roll I bought back then. Remembering what Andy Skrabalak told me I concentrated on the triangle from the verticals midline of Abe to the right rim. The spots are always the kicker but this area is clean. The luster is booming, not showing well on my image. One thing I've noticed from having an MS70RD is how that coin has surgically flat fields, as does this one
