Grade Opinions 1923-S Buffalo

Here's one that I picked up a little while back and haven't posted yet.

I'm interested in what the resident experts here think about the coin and what grade they would assign.

PCGS MS65

64 would be my guess but I am not sure about luster. Strike is as strong as some 65s i have seen.

64 on a bad day. 65 on a good day.

  • At our host I would go 65 because of the importance of eye appeal and this coin has eye appeal.

Sensational. I have to guess MS64, for the simple reason that one in MS65 costs 10 grand. image

64 seems about right. Nice Buffalo!

  • That is a beautiful photo of a super eye appealing coin from which I can't really say more than 63-ish. It is a "sexy" photo, but I can't get a firm read on the surfaces - but it looks wonderful.

I'm no expert, i love the series and this coin is gorgeous!!!
I'm in the 64 on a bad day camp, 65 on a good day, and maybe even better if the grader had an especially GOOD night prior to seeing this oneimage

Does anyone here have this coin and can say whether it's better or worse than the coin they have? Like that's going to happen in this competitive world of ours. image

That is a super looking coin for the date/MM: much better than average strike, really clean surfaces and great eye appeal to boot. My only question mark is whether the darker toning holds it back, but I'll go 65 despite the huge jump in price.

I like it but PCGS may say code 91 if not MS64 imageimage

    Hoard the keys.
  • I wasnt sure if it was the pic adding to the color or if it looks like that in hand. There is a transition between the toning ? I still like it.

1923-S Buffs are not know for BIG strikes. This one your showing is amazing!! I think you have a VERY good shot at a 65 here!! Send it in and let us know the results. Strike, luster...... It's a beauty!!!!!!!!

The coin is already in a PCGS holder, right?

Thanks for your opinions. Grade currently assigned is MS65. When I came across this coin, I had been searching for a nice 23-S for some time. I purchased the coin because I thought it was quite exceptional for a 65. The photos aren't the greatest representation of the coin in hand. I was trying to get a good shot that showed the best combination of the coins toning, luster and strike. It doesn't appear that the coin has been submitted for regrading since the "plus" grades were added, so I think this might be one I'll give it a go with.
