In Memorium: Our Lost Members

Hi All,
When I use the search feature I always see icons that cause me to think about members gone now. Maybe this will work, maybe it won't, but let's try. I am in no way trying to be presumptuous or proprietary. I just want to remember these folks and what they gave to the boards; newer members can have a place to look and maybe learn a bit about who was here before.
I start this thread to honor and remember all those who we have lost. I am not good with "rules" so there aren't any - I suggest we keep it simple so we keep it going. Maybe the user ID, maybe an anecdote, link to an old thread or a word about what they did. No fighting please. Only good stuff here please. If you disagree with something just move along I guess. If you think it remotely might cause a problem - don't post it I guess. Just the good stuff. User monikers should suffice so they can be searched by newer members. This is sort of a reverse census I guess, but really a place this is a place to remember the great coin collectors of all stripes and sizes, or those with valuable information to share - and much more importantly, the many people we have known here. I owe some of these folks a lot, whether it was sharing knowledge or writing with wit and clarity - bet many of you do too. It is my suggestion we keep it one post per lost member if possible so we can include many. Eric

I am not running this show of course - I just had the idea and felt compelled. I think if we keep it all short, sweet and avoid any controversy we should be fine, repetition or not.
****************************************************
I'll start with...
Bear, aka Abe (11.20.11), a wise and brave gentleman with a kind heart and a great way with words. He lived his life and continued his collection while sharing his knowledge with grace to the last despite increasing difficulty. He had a stabilizing effect when some threads got a little heated, remember that? When newer readers see an old, well-written, seemingly simple post of double spaced words of value - that's likely the Wise Old Bear. Search his threads to see him in action. We can still learn from him - and he can continue to spread his knowledge with his posts.
So, raise a jelly donut for Bear.
Who would like add another member to this roll? If someone could please PM me a link for a beautiful "lost man formation" photo I will add it right here and remove this sentence.

I am glad he was a tree.
Lance.
I think you might wind up with more than one post for some of the lost members because some were very impactful. That said, let me briefly mention IGWT; I presume others will chime in with more details.
I miss IGWT almost every time I look at the coin forum. I know I did not interact with him nearly as much as did others but whenever I did it was hugely enjoyable and often very enlightening. For those who remember the thread and the "secret" pm, the picture IGWT posted in this thread is absolutely hilarious. And his pictures of his shield nickels were stunning; for coins I thought rather pedestrian, his posts and pictures definitely switched my opinion about those nickels!
So much potential

I agree. He was such a nice kid but just got in way over his head.
The name is LEE!
<< <i>Speety was a pretty cool young buck
Just a tragic happening
<< <i>Most here probably don't remember him, because he only collected world coins, but newbiecollector (Wayne Whatley) was a good guy. >>
Another darksider who is missed is TBird56 (Brad Swain). He was amazing at identifing World coins.

I was gonna say Larry G. Miss him even though I never met him.
Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.

Larry was a good friend to me. I still remember some of our conversations. He is dearly missed.

Such a nice, smart kid. That one was a tragedy and leaves you without words.
Bear was the poet laureate of the forum and miss his posts more than anyone
who ever posted here. Never met him but feel like I knew him very well.
Very wise, very funny -- he could trash talk you but it felt like he was giving you a massage.

This....I really still can't believe it...I used to have lunch with the guy all of the time out here at the Long Beach show. Shiro, Greg Margulies and I used to rib him to no end about his "golly gee willakers" looks and attitude. Such a sad loss.

Mental negativity and neuroticism? Hmmm... I'll have to think about this. Not sure I agree.

Neurotism---maybe but coins give me some peace and brief moments of sanity in an otherwise cruel and crazy world.

<< <i>Anyone know anything about Eric Tillery who used to be a big poster here? He also had a ham handle of KAZ. >>
Sent you a PM.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
