A Beautiful Heartwarming story, that may even bring a tear to your eye...

My brother-in law sadly passed away from Stage IV Lung Cancer that also went to the brain on August 21st, this year. He was 65 years old, and was starting a collection late in his life. He had a son who he loved dearly, and collected because he wanted to pass the coins onto his kid one day. Well, as our family was cleaning up his old house, they were giving his old bed and mattress to the consignment shop... and look what was found literally in the box springs, saying "Son, for your birthday, 2013". The consignor who was taking in the furniture found it, called us immediately and told us.

From the day his son was born to the day he passed away (1986-2013) he was either buying one coin for him a year (and made it to the 2013 ASE), or bought the whole album already filled, whatever the case was, it was a heartwarming gesture. Thankfully, the consignor was honest with us! Cherish a loved one, because you never know when it will be there time.. and you don't get any do overs when it is.. God bless

You are very fortunate to have an honest consignor. You read so many stories about how stuff is found tucked away in furniture and other places that people find after it is has been sold or might have been "found" without the family's knowledge, if you get my drift. The firm to whom we consigned my late mother's household furnishings was bad news. image

This is a wonderful set for a casual collector to leave to the family. It has a representation of each year that you brother-in-law shared with the family, and the coins are very attractive. It has an intrinsic value. If they do decide to sell it for whatever reason, it is the type of thing that easy to evaluate without the family getting taken.

GREAT story and I'm glad you shared it with this forum. Most of the time it's about thieves and crooks. It's VERY nice to get some fresh air in the room. Great story!!!

Very touching story and sorry for your loss.
Really a blessing to have gotten that call from the consignment shop. Sadly, there are many that would have not called.

It's always nice when the departed leave notes with their belongings. I recently lost my Aunt and we were quite close. She left me most of her possessions, art, books, letters, photos and even some very nice coins. It's a HUGE job, yet very touching and heartwarming when I find those notes hidden in the books, or batch of photos. Notes telling me the story behind the items, what to "throw away" upon her passing, etc.

Thanks for sharing and once again, my condolences.
