Exactly. You can't take stats at face value without taking the whole situation into context..

And you can't take one stat wholly without putting them into context with other stats.....in other categories he wasn't bad, which is why ypc is so troublesome. And he is injury prone. I think there's a fair chance he winds up being what Jim Brown said he was....ordinary.

Surely all of you who are upset thought he was worthy of the #3 pick?

I never said he was or wasn't. I questioned him going 3rd from day 1. But God knows it wasn't the worst pick I've seen them make. My problem with his trade stemmed from him actually being a 3rd pick only a year ago and being traded for a pick that will likely be a less than #25 pick. Add that to the fact that it is week 3 and Cleveland has given up is bothersome. Is he injury prone? I say yes, but I also say it comes with being a workhorse RB. But one thing I did like about him was that he would not only play through those injuries but also beg to be on the field and getting the ball. Cleveland can't say that about some of their other recent backs (thanks Hillis!).

Not to rub salt in the wound but you also traded 4th, 5th, and 7th rounders to move up one spot.

...and now the Colts have the #1 and #3 PROVEN draft picks from 2012.
  • The Browns scammed a first round pick for a RB with a career 3.5 avg and a history of being prone to injuries? I'm on board! I've been a Browns fan since Mike Phipps (now there's a bad trade) but next year when the Browns draft Teddy Bridgewater, and then look up at the draft board and still see a 1st, 2nd, two 3's, two 4's, still to pick. all you bandwagon fans will be jumping back on. Any new regime wants to bring in their own guys and draft their own prospects... Cleveland is no different. If they can stop the revolving door in the front office they will stop the quick hooks on the skill players. Go Browns!

We've had more regimes than the Middle East. Yes, we are stacked up on draft picks now just like we were last year. It will be interesting to see who we trade them away for to move up into the draft and grab that doesn't work out when the next regime comes in. Is anybody else seeing a trend here?

If you can't stay loyal to your team through good and bad don't even bother calling yourself a fan! Its boring if a team wins all the time, oh the Yankees didn't win the world series last season im so shocked they only win a title like every other season, like whats the fun in that i mean really what do you do after that order a new hat and eat a creme cheese and cucumber sandwich! I want a team that has character hell thats why we root for Rocky to beat that Russian!! Underdogs are the best! Orioles and Raiders for life, never giving up and one day when we win that championship im gonna be screaming running naked in the street and drink until they have to pump the jack daniels out of my liver! (: DONT GIVE UP RYAN THEY NEED YOU!!! (To buy 300 dollar game tickets at ticket stub.com) (; >>

From one Raider fan to another we are on the way back up. Of course when you hit rock bottom and start to dig there isnt anywhere else to go.

What I love is the Dallas Cowboys are going through the same arc that the Raiders did for the last 10 years. They dont realize it yet, but they are. btw, in the last 10 years the Raiders have won more playoff games than the Cowboys

The Browns need someone who can evaluate talent. This situation is ridiculous. On the plus side they not only will get Indys first round pick but they are on pace to also have the first overall pick. Problem is whoever they pick will be traded away in a year or two for another draft pick.

See there's where you're wrong... sure you have the Orioles and the MORON Peter Angelos... but Cleveland has The Indians, Cavaliers, AND Browns. The trifecta of SUCK and BAD LUCK!! Forever notorious of breeding the best then giving them away.

Again, I'm still a fan, because I'm a glutton for punishment, but I'm not going anywhere!

I think this is a good trade for Cleveland. It sucks for this year but helps in the draft. Richardson will likely be better in Indy than he was in Cleveland but, fret not Cleveland fans, he ain't the second coming of Barry Sanders or Marshall Faulk.

Wow... besides being thoroughly entertained by this article, I'm also kind of turned upside down. I've always loved Bill Simmons, and this article might be my favorite one of his. I think I have to agree with him.

I'm just having a hard time with the idea of rooting for the Browns to fail. How can you watch a team that you love, purposely lose games? A world where every loss is a win, and where every touchdown is a failure. What are we even doing here? Why do we even watch? Who do we cheer for? Cheering for my team to fail just so we can draft yet another first round quarterback who still might turn out to be a pile of crap for us? This dance feel all too familiar... but I'm in. I'm not going anywhere.

After about 24 hours of letting this whole thing sink in I am remaining loyal also. I won't be rooting for them to lose this year so that we can have 1st pick next year (even though I don't doubt that it will happen). And yes, looking back on this thread in 5 years I will probably be regretting this decision. But alas, a fan is a fan. Over 40 years of rooting for the Browns and watching their every move is hard to just walk away from, no matter how much I wish I could at times. I guess in a way it's kind of like being married to the same woman forever. Sure, the next door neighbor that is a brunette with DD's may actually be Calvin Johnson in this case...but I still can only look and not touch. Loyalty sure can be a B sometimes.

I have been a Brown's fan for over 30 years as well. I quit on them a little earlier. On Sunday Sep 15th, 2013. Anyone who thinks "This regime" will use these picks and actually turn things around is a blind homer. I moved to Colorado 2 1/2 years ago and resisted the urge to quit on the Brown's but after watching that dreadful offense this past Sunday look EXACTLY like every other Brown's offense has (discount 1 fluke D.A and Braylon year) for the past 14 years I couldn't take it. I now appreciate the teams that do anything they can to win. Denver ran a college offense with Tim Tebow 2 years ago, because it gave them the BEST chance to win right then. Then they kicked him to the curb and went hard core after Manning. That is what teams who truly want to win do. The Brown's just take money from an illogical fan base that will continue to support them, and drink the kool aid no matter what, and put a garbage product on the field. I feel for all the people who still live in Cleveland and are starving for a team they can truly believe has a shot at a championship. It's a little easier for me, since I moved away but it blows my mind that people have bought into the spin that this is a good thing. Now the Brown's have 2 first round draft picks ! Great, considering they just had 2 first round draft picks in 2012 and are already giving up on them, why would anyone assume any type of draft success? Now I can see people buying the spin if we were talking about the Ravens stock piling picks. Considering they have a history of success in the draft. But the Browns ??? If Chud and Lombardi are still with the Browns by the beginning of 2015, I will crap my pants. And as Forrest Gump said, that's all I have to say about that.

Are you telling me that you went from being a Browns fan to being a Broncos fan? That's like converting from an Ohio State fan to an Alabama fan. I hope your sister has nice breath, because you're making out with her right now.
  • 76collector76collector Posts: 986 ✭✭✭✭✭
I'm actually more of a fantasy football fan, and have an appreciation of the changes the Bronco's have made over the past couple years in an effort to win. I pretty much will now only root for players who I have on my fantasy football teams. I won't be wearing a Bronco jersey any time soon. I doubt I will ever root for a team like I used to root for the Browns. The one constant is I will forever hate the Steelers.

since I have Lynch, the Seahawks defense and Hauschka, I guess for the rest of this year I'm a Seahawks fan.

  • Cleveland Browns? I grew up in New Orleans. We had Saints season tickets from 1967 to 1983. We NEVER saw a winning season. There were years we only saw one win. Most seasons, our preseason had us winning more games than the regular season. We traded the top pick to the Baltimore Colts TWICE. We got Gary Cuozzo and Billy Newsome. They got Bubba Smith and Bert Jones. But all those years made 2009 that much sweeter! Stick with your Browns. Their day will come eventually. I think.

I've said all along that if there were ever a season where the AFC North was wide open, it's this season. The Stillers suck, the Ravens have disbanded, and I thought the only good team in the North was the Bengirls. After the Browns' win today, it's anyone's ballgame! I really thought trading Trent was the Browns' way of throwing in the towel, but they have new life and new hope to MAYBE win the division! I have no delusions that they would make it past the first round of the playoffs, but the division is certainly in the realm of possibility!

Weeden stepped in admirably tonight. Perhaps Richardson was a negative impact player after all, lol..

Edit to add: That injury to Hoyer looked pretty bad.

I used to be a serious Cleveland Browns fan but I never felt the same way about the team after they unceremoniously dumped Bernie Kosar.

Shortly thereafter Modell bails and moves the team to Baltimore. Watching Belichick's Patriots and Modell's Ravens win multiple superbowls turned me off of the entire sport of football. That was enough for me. Seriously, to hell with NFL football.

Such a shame about Hoyer....I'm not saying he was going to be the next Aaron Rodgers but he had been looking like at least a solid QB. The last time we had that in Cleveland was about 25 years ago.
