I was surprised that a troy pound is lighter than a regular pound, being that the troy oz is heavier than regular oz.

A kilo would be a nice round number though, so I think I'd actually like a 1 kg more even though it would be lighter.

Precious metals are weighed using Troy units while everything else is weighed using Avoirdupois units. Therefore, a pound of feathers weighs more than a pound of gold and yet an ounce of feathers weigh less than an ounce of gold.

Those are the thumbrules I used as well. Wasn't sure what a troy pound was but figured it was 3 x 12 ounces.
