Well, officially , its an oligopoly ...Brent vs Rick

Ebays New Consignment Center

In a typical Oligopoly, Coke and Pepsi dislike each other....

Not the case here....

Brent and I like each other and have tremendous mutual respect...

This looks like something that could easily help with the higher fees.

Hopefully for your sake it drives more business your way.

  • Probstein, does Dave Forman consign cards to you?

Uh oh. It's way too early in the morning for popcorn. I will come back later to see where this goes.

Edited to add: Maurice, you sure picked a doozie of a question to ask for your 707th post on this board! Interesting coincidence?

  • Yeah. Just like Coke and Pepsi, hilarious stuff.

Will Ebay be regulating the consignors bidding on their own cards through this new initiative? ...perhaps through their user IDs?

    What's not to like?
  • Coke vs Pepsi? Don't flatter yourself muchacho.

More like the Philly sausage oligarchy of fiorella brothers and maglio.

They swear by each others sausages yet go to great lengths to expand their market penetration. Both are experts in Italian sausage yet are are not averse to a less viscous polish or Russian sausage. They know sausages like Rick knows 82 traded ripkens.
  • Very interesting. Congrats Rick, if you ask me.

    Congrats Rick.

You have a great business plan going.
  • Just my 2cents, I like to deal with and buy from Probestein as he lists lower sought after cards in high grade that I can buy and not break the bank...where as PWCC only has cards for you with deep pockets. I like the idea of the consignment center as I know there are some people who will pop a really nice card but will get a lower price as they might not be known in the hobby. I like competition, the best will always rise. Good luck to the both of you

They are both very good at what they do as I have dealt with both quite a bit.

Congratulations and kudos should go out to them. They have built a great business with great reputations, which is very difficult to do. Knocking people down for their success is the norm these days, but the reality is that they are living the dream because they do it right.

Don't know why ebay doesn't link to your ebay stores from the contact info.

I'm sure Rick has been very busy and didn't see this question.

my question for rick has nothing to do with dave forman or the alleged discontent with pwcc........

can you explain how this change aids would-be consignors?

    thanks and good luck. eyebone

Maybe they're taking a proactive stance against consignors bidding on their own consignments and it's not going over too well with the consignors.

Wow, thanks for all the specifics and examples you cited -- it really adds to this discussion! You have such a pulse on the hobby.

I guess those "rumblings" are contrasting with all the vocal supporters who are constantly commenting on their positive experiences with PWCC.
  • KB might be right.......& that might not make some people around here too happy.

  • eBay Consignment Center connects you with top collectibles Consignment Sellers on eBay. These Consignment Sellers are not eBay employees, but rather highly trusted independent specialist sellers on the site. They sell your items; you make more money. Consignment Sellers may decide to consign or buy your items outright. Whether you’re a collector, dealer or have just inherited or purchased collectibles, put the expertise of eBay’s Consignment Sellers to work for you today.

This has me scratching my head. If you are sending an item to an ebay consignment seller to sell on ebay then why would the consignment seller buy the item outright? Outright meaning not listing it on ebay. Ebay makes no money that way. Or does this mean the consignor may bid and "buy" the item via the ebay listing? If so, it seems like this statement is ebay's way of saying it is ok if the consignor bids on the items he/she lists as consignments.

I read this is the consignment seller can keep "buying" the item until it finally sells for a price where the seller feels it isn't worth "rebuying".
  • KbKardsKbKards Posts: 1,782 ✭✭✭
Ebay assumes that the consignment seller will be listing the items they get on Ebay, whether they're consigned or purchased outright by the consignment seller. Ebay makes the same money either way.
