2014: Cleveland
2015: Chicago
2016: Atlantic City
2017: Chicago
2018: Cleveland
2019: Chicago
Always buying 1971 OPC Baseball packs.

I guess I will be going in 2016, about a 2.5 hour drive.

Boo nothing on the west coast again.image

Wonder what the admission rate is going to be in the years ahead maybe $40 +its like almost $20 sure getting kind of expensive to attend these days and you take allong the kids etc makes for an expensive outing.

Updated . Checkeing the website for tri star and its now $20 in advance and $25 day of show for one day.

I foresee one Chicago trip out of that whole list for me. Outside shot at Atlantic City but I'm not overly excited for it. The guys that run this thing have their heads way up their bottoms. Now would be a good time for someone else to step in and give them a run for their money.
  • Rigged... Have one in San Francisco or LA and it would be worth it. I guess the "West Coast" for Nationals is in Illinois.
I collect vintage PSA graded SF Giants, Willie Mays, McCovey, Cepeda, Marichal and Perry. And modern players like Buster Posey, Will Clark and Barry Bonds.

  • They need to change the dates. A lot of kids are already back in school the first of August.

I think AC is a horrible idea. The money most bring to the show might not find it's way into the show. There's a lot of temptation there for many.

    Bad move!

Has anybody ever seen a good Atlantic City National? I know I haven't.

I'm in TN. Is there anything ever in Atlanta, Indy, Cincy, or StLouis?

I was hoping that they would be coming back to Baltimore. I missed it when it was there last time because I was out of town on business, but would be great to be able to zip up there for the day from DC area.

I read somewhere that the dealers have a say in where the National is located. Since many of the dealers are from the east coast, it makes sense for them to keep it near home. This of course does not make me happy since I live in the LA/OC area.

Why is it that whenever I hear about the most successful National, everyone says it was in Anaheim?
    Just saying.

How can there be so many collecting dollars in California, yet the show is never in California?

I also wonder why Texas or Colorado is never on there. Surely, there are a lot of collectors in the middle of the country, or the south.

Logistics, expense and the fact that a majority of voters and the powers that be are from the East Coast... Many of the venues that would be used in the West and Southwest are not eligible for long term bookings. Add others that have significant union demands, limited hotel blocks, air or ground transportation, weather and one can see some of the trappings that have limited the NSCC from booking the likes of St. Louis/Kansas City or New Orleans.

Anaheim was an absolute PitA for East Coast dealers and the hall was also not very friendly with regard to load-in and load-out. Atlanta is just too hot. Atlantic City will be another blood bath.

Personally, I'd love to see a few other cities added to the mix, but it really appears that because the NSCC makes money there, that Cleveland/Chicago are the standard fare with the occasional Baltimore or Atlantic City thrown in to break up the monotony...

Had one in Atlanta back in the nineties. Seem to remember dealers weren't happy with sales.

I hear Annahiem couldn't commit to the week, think they are booked for several years out. I would sure like to see one in the south, Dallas, San Antonio, Houiston, maybe even OK city.

enjoyed a good laugh with that. I've never made it to a national, so personally I'm excited to do it in Cleveland. I collect a lot of different Indians things and assume there might be a few more local things there (maybe that's a bad assumption)
    Need PSA Indians/Browns

It still doesn't make any sense.

Doesn't the Long Beach Coin show attract dealers from all over the country? What's the difference with cards?

Why has that show stayed so strong for years, while cards/sports just kind of withers away?

-Also, comic con has stayed in San Diego for years. This aversion to LA for cards just seems wacky. There's a huge population in So Cal, large collector base, major international airport, big hotels, etc. This east coast only thing is getting crazy. Through 2019??

I remember going to so many shows as a kid in LA in the early 90's, ...pomona, LA Convention Center, Anaheim. I think there was a show at the Shrine Auditorium by USC a few times.

They had a National in the 90's in Atlanta and it went well. I had a great time. Hasn't been back though. The guys who plan this thing always seem to gravitate to the midwest for whatever reason.

Think of all the money I am going to save if I am still getting a comp room in 3 years?

Don't almost all major cities have a casino today? (pretty sure both Chicago and Cleveland do)

  • jeffcbayjeffcbay Posts: 8,950 ✭✭✭✭
Yes, Cleveland has a casino now.

Kind of shocked about no more Baltimore, but I'm happy about it remaining an hour from my house in 2014 & 2018 (Cleveland). image

Since I live in Parma which is a suburb of Cleveland I have no problems with the future sites.....west coast would be nice but the one's they have picked are all driving distance for me.....now the video about Cleveland is outdated and really in bad taste in my opinion....yeah maybe funny in parts but the city isn't as bad as it is often portrayed and yes the river did catch on fire once but that was back when I was in high school.....and I am now 60 years old so at least talk about something that occured recently.....

There is no reason for the National to not be held in Vegas every year.
  • jeffcbayjeffcbay Posts: 8,950 ✭✭✭✭
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think historically the National tends to not do so well on the west coast. Probably has something to do with people would rather be standing outside in the sun or something.

  • << <i>There is no reason for the National to not be held in Vegas every year. >>

This. Lots of cheap flights and great venues + lots to do.

No offense to the goo folks of Cleveland but that downtown is boring. I was thinking of going next year but won't be making the trip out from the West Coast to spend a weekend in August in Cleveland.
  • No disrespect, but I can't figure out why the hell people within a 8 to 10 hour drive of Chicago are not going this year ?

    Other Cleveland Video

Also it's about a 6 hour drive from me so it's not too bad but it's still a lot of driving. I'll have to wait and see.
