My 1980 Rickey Rookie Is a PSA 9 grade possible?

Just pulled this from my collection (been stored in binder for years)
Thinking about sending in for grade and hoping for a 8 or maybe even
a 9 but being a novice at card submission I thought I would ask here
first since anything lower would not be worth the cost of submission

Also not sure what type of background would be best for scans. I chose
black for the front white boarder and white for the blue back but since I
already had scans of back with the black boarder done I figured I would
add them here as well

Thanks in advance for any comments or advice, Good or Bad any opinions will
help me decide weather to submit or not

EDIT OOPS
Forgot to mention although you can not see a printer spot
with the naked eye there are two in the lower A’s green pennant/banner
using a magnifying glass I can see two just under the Large A
(1 centered between the legs of the A and 1 just to the right side of the right leg of the A)

Hard to tell for sure with the limitations of the scan, but think it's an 8 minimum. The bottom edge looks a bit ruffled, yes?

It is a very nice card for sure. Bottom corners look a little soft to me. It could be the scan.

I agree that it is an 8 for sure assuming there are no surface issues and perhaps higher.

It is definately worth sending in to find out in my opinion.

  • Sorry, dude. The bottom two corners put that thing at a 7-7.5
  • Yes the bottom does seem to have some very minor chiping and the two lower corners
seem to be slightly soft under magnification. would that lower it less then an 8 I suspect it could image

Thanks for the opinons. Might give it a try but now kinda suspect a 7 for sure with the outside chance
of an 8 image however it really looks great without magnification so maybe I will just leave it raw in a nice case

Great centering side to side..tough to find like that.

Is that snow on the card in the middle areas(where the background is black)? cant tell if its scan or not

I just sold my PSA 9 through PWCC a couple days ago. You can check it out on eBay. It looks very similar to yours from what I can tell in you scan. A little chipping on the bottom and the corners didn't strike me as perfect. A better scan would help, but based on what I see, I think there's a chance at a 9. Good luck.

I don't see it going lower than an 8. Probably an 8.

I see a PSA 8 as being the more likely outcome.

There is a board member who less then six weeks ago hit a PSA 10 Henderson and if you read the thread there were calls for it being an 8 in some cases.

Send this in on a special and spend the $6 bucks to find out either way.

I sent in my best Henderson about a year and a half ago and it came back an 8. Many were calling for lower as well.

Scans don't always tell the full story.

I'm thinking 8. Funny, I just subbed the same exact card this week. Hoping for a 9 as well. Good luck on yours image
  • Thanks Guys really appreciate the help

Hear are a few more pictures taken with my old digital camera using the Macro setting so could not use the flash did my best using a flashlight
for lighting image really need to update my system with some new equipment (scanner, camera)

You can see the printer spot in the A's banner on the bottom picture (really cant pick it up without magnification)
Also you can make out the chipping along with the bottom edge

They could easily put that in a 9 holder. Only one way to find out where it lands on its first try!

Looks good possible 9. Give it a try!!!

I don't think the print problems will hurt you, top right corner looks a little soft, but not that bad. Centering is awesome. I don't know about this particular card, but the white bordered cards I have submitted seem to surpass my expectations more than those with colored borders.

    Good luck!!!!

I'd say at least 50/50 on going 9.

Very nice card - love the centering

Love this card. After seeing your second pics, I'm going with a 9. Best of Luck.

If this goes like the Jerry Rice thread then it's an 11.
  • The second, close-up scans look a lot better, but the bottom left corner still seems a bit soft.

    I'll say 8
  • Again thanks to all for taking the time to evaluate the pictures/scans.
sadly these are the best scans/pictures my outdated equipment can do but
it does sound like a fair chance at an 8 so I will give it a go.

I will update this thread when I get it back, probably 2 or three months image

My last submission for 6 tickets is still not done and that was submitted back on April 19th
recently called and all the info I could get about it was "its still being processed" I new that
when I checked my account submission page so I asked if she could tell me at what stage
it was at like weather or not the first grader had completed his evaluation but she told me
all she could tell me is its still in process which I already knew co calling was of no help.
Nearly two months and nothing yet. Since this will be a single, maybe two card submission
(May include my Jerry Rice Rookie hoping for a 8 on that one as well ) I hope it will be a little faster.

A card like that, with a real shot at a 9, I think it is worth doing the June 10-day/$15 special. Then again, I am really impatient and have no stomach for the 45-day (or longer) wait.
