ColonelJessup's Email Account has been Hijacked... Unless he's really stranded in Manila?

Just in titled as SAD NEWS...

Good morning,
I Hope you get this on time, I made a trip to Manila (Philippines) and had my bag stolen from me with my passport and personal effects therein. The embassy has just issued me a temporary passport but I have to pay for a ticket and settle my hotel bills with the Manager.

I have made contact with my bank but it would take me 3-5 working days to access funds in my account, the bad news is my flight will be leaving very soon but i am having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won't let me leave until i settle the bills, I need your help financially and I promise to make the refund once i get back home, you are my last resort and hope, Please let me know if i can count on you and i need you to keep checking your email because it's the only way i can reach you.

    Awe man, I haven't yet received the $24.97 million into my bank account from that guy that emailed me from Djibouti, Africa. But as soon as I do, I'll help the good Col. pay his bills in the Philippines.

    Quite a few pointed out that they immediately knew something was hinky because $1800 does not add up to ANYTHING +17.5%

    Don;t worry everyone - I've just touched down in Manila and as soon as I get my luggage I will race over to the Colonel's hotel, pay his bill for him in person, and then personally escort him back to the US (stopping briefly in Palau for a cold drink and some scuba diving, which is what we always do whenever he gets stranded in the Philippines).

    Well I am sure glad the email account is still open so the money can be sent. From the title of this thread I thought the email account had been stolen too. lol

    Is it by chance a Yahoo email account? Those seem to get hacked far more often than any others.

    Note that the sender is "ricksear01@aol.com and the return account is "rick I sear01@aol.com"

    More likely.. "stuck inside of Mobile with those Memphis blues again" which is more an existential issue than a geographic one.

    There's not a chance in the world that someone could hijack the Colonel's account and get away with it. Usually by the 5th word of the first sentence I'm reaching for my
    thesaurus to figure out what he's saying. No one can duplicate the Colonel's unique literary flow. And usually by the end of a CJ post I'm wracking my brain to see if I really
    understood his point...with or without the thesaurus handy. Usually, I have more questions than answers. image

    There's clearly none of that in the "hijacked" email. Therefore, clearly an imposter. There's only one Colonel Jessup. Just as there is only one Colonel Angus.

    Greetings from the Manila City Jail. While my new roommate is a trifle overpossessive, my experiences here give me a new insight into the production and use of jail-house tokens, which I've found are more popular here than BitCoins.
    A word of warning; they are not accepted at the mini-bar in my cell and a pack of almonds costs more than in the hotels in Beverly Hills.

    I'd like to thank both Forum members who've sent in $18 to help defray the costs of my problem. And Mom and Sis, the idea of splitting the contribution was quite clever. Saves wiring fees and all that. I am a little upset that I won't be getting Rosh Hashanah cards this year, but you're right. Better to get back sooner than later.

    Several ANA Board candidates have pledged personal funds to secure my release soon after the results of the elections. So, as we say in NJ, as in Chicago and Boston, vote early and often. image

    I was told the hotel bill was prepaid by cc. The $1800 was for the minibar and damages.
