I regret not getting in on thet mini case break we did a few years ago. I was gun shy about pulling the trigger on a big purchase back then. Do you guys remember what those boxes went for on that break?

IIRC, the one from a couple years back the price was $1,400 or so a box.

Those who have long been collecting unopened product and racks/cellos with stars showing were ahead of the times... I imagine building these collections today would cost considerably more!
Some truly amazing items, gents, thank you for sharing.
I think a run of BBCE boxes from cases from 1975-1983 could fetch in the ball park of $6500 as an estimate.
But I agree. Having them sealed is a much better proposition at this point and as someone said, ahead of their time. They look marvelous all together like that. As much as I love collecting the 80's, seeing some of that 70's stuff is very enticing.
Last year, I bought a 75 mini box from BBCE, my most expensive wax purchase. I wanted to protect the box as much as possible, and luckily, since these were mini's, the wax box fits perfectly in a 550ct storage box. But in order for me to still enjoy the visual appeal of a 1975 Topps Mini Box, I scanned each side of the box, printed it out on color paper, and applied it to each side of the storage box. Here was the outcome:

stevebay, that was a great idea you came up with...well done!!!
I actually remember someone on this board saying they make copies of slabbed cards to put in the sleeves of their otherwise raw set binders. This reminded me of that.

Wow, that 72 rack with Mays on back is sweet. I would love to have a rack and cello pack run with Mays on it, but I don't think I could even afford one pack let alone all of the packs from his playing career. Hold on to that sucker, and if you ever want to sell it let me know .
I collect vintage PSA graded SF Giants, Willie Mays, McCovey, Cepeda, Marichal and Perry. And modern players like Buster Posey, Will Clark and Barry Bonds.
The 72 rack is nice. That Home Run Leaders, is it just 2 players or 3 players? Reggie Jackson was third on the list. The first two look like flukes from the previous season. Too bad Aaron or another HOF'er did not lead the league that year.

Jackson is also on the front of that leaders card. Topps displayed the top 3 finishers that year.
And just when I gave up all hope today that my package was not coming, UPS showed up at my door at 7:30pm (Est). You guys were not kidding about these 82 boxes. Absolutely beautiful. I at first thought that $190 was steep but after seeing this box in hand, it was completely worth it. I'm sure these boxes will sell out next time even if they were $220. 1982 is the new 1979 lol.
I've never been much of a sealed wax box collector but I wanted to do a wax box run from Topps of the 80's along with picking up some others that I have personally liked along the way. I took some pictures of my little collection so far.
Thats a nice startup 80's collection Foo! Although I would disagree 1982 is the new 1979, but rather 1980 would be the new 1979. 1981 is still too cheap, but is much scarcer than 1982, but we all know that the Ripken card is the real value of that box.
But 1981 still has a lot of growth potential. With no PSA 10 Valenzuela locked down, and plenty of common 10's not discovered, it could be one of those undiscovered sets. And it seems to have centering issues in general that 1982 seems to do a lot better with (or maybe the border is more forgiving in appearance).
Some great contributions to this thread...nice '80s run, Foo!
