1909 s V.D.B. Does it look real?

TURBOTURBO Posts: 494 ✭✭✭
I know these pics suck but thought I'd take a chance anyway. Just looking for some general opinions.
Found this coin in my brothers things after he passed away.
Cant get a close up on the V.D.B. with this camera.

S mint mark looks added to me.
    When in doubt, don't.

I don't like the "S." It does not appear to be the right shape (needs to be fatter in the middle) and it looks higher and bolder than the date.

I'd say counterfeit with an "S" added.

Yes, the MM looks bad, but I think it is a stuck counterfeit, not an added MM. Looks like it was "fed to duck" to give it that aged look.

Yes, it could be another Chinese fake that has been "aged" but in any case I still vote counterfeit.

Added S. Almost certainly many more fakes exist than genuine.

OK.........off topic.......I apologize in advance but on my computer screen, TURBO, the Op's user name is highlighted and underlined. When I place my curser over it an advertisement displays, "Hyundai's USA Official website". Is anyone else getting this? I also noticed earlier today on my website a couple of words that were also highlighted and underlined with other advertisements. Is it a bug in my computer system?

I guess we should get used to the funky photobucket image posts.

Do folks not "Look at what" they've just posted and wonder what the heck is up?
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Star working? hmm between leothelyon's weird PC virus and the photobucket issue we are batting a thousand! image

TURBO, sorry to learn of your brother's passing. I hope it goes without saying, that if this penny is indeed fake (looks/sounds like it is fake) that does not reflect on your brother in any way. We certainly aren't accusing him of making the fake and we have all come across them on our journeys. My children will find a couple in my collection someday, saved for educational purposes (to more easily spot similar fakes). image

Genuine 1909 VDB Lincoln cent, added S mintmark. No question, and the photos are plenty good enough to tell.
