Engelhard London kilo gold bar 995 fine

Hello,

Was looking to buy a small gold bar at a local pawn shop the other day, 2oz max and my eye fell on a 1 kilo Engelhard gold bar poured 995 fine bar...
I could not take a photograph but is the same one as the pictured here

http://www . taxfreegold . co.uk/images/engelhardlondoni1kilogoldbar400.jpg

it looked really old and that got my attention...

did some research but there is absolutely nothing I can find on Engelhard kilo bars, however the 1 and 2 oz bars sell quite well on ebay...

it is up for sale at gold spot price plus 10% premium...

apparently this bar is really rare but is it really worth a 10% premium?

any help would be really appreciated...

a kilo of gold costs a lot of money... not too many buyers at that price point. not sure about the premium but I doubt there's much of one at that kind of price level.

It may be rare....but it's still only a large gold bar. btw you can get 1 kilo Engelhard bars at APMEX for only a slight premium above melt.

    APMEX 1 kilo Engelhard

    oops me bad...out of stock.

It's a cool bar but I wouldn't put that much money on one single piece. It may become "boring"...
Though, I don't know how much you make, that bar for you could be like a tenth ozer for me!

    In any case, welcome!!

Collectible to some, but possibly difficult to sell being "only" .995 fine. At $1560 an ounce that is a discount of $7.80 per ounce. (At $35 an ounce it was only 17 and a half cents!)

I've held a old style Kilo gold engelhard a few ago when I lived in California. The B&M owner showed me, looked really neat!

  • thank you for the kind welcome

I will also go for a 2 oz bar but that kilo was really tempting.. .and the premium got me wondering...

and then I saw that auction here http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-GOLD-BAR-Vintage-HAND-POURED-10-TROY-OZ-ENGELHARD-GOLD-BAR-/150997609044?pt=Bullion_US&hash=item232828aa54

this one went one for a nice premium above spot price...
