I purchased a group of Goudeys described as reprints, this is what happened...

I bought this massive lot of 1933 and 1934 Goudeys last month. The seller had no idea what they were and described them as reprints (because that is what her local card shop told her). I ended up winning them for less than $100 and when they arrived I could not find a single thing wrong with them! After searching here and net54 for hours trying to find information on reprints and counterfeit cards I decide to send ONE in to PSA (a 1933 Goudey Lazzeri) with a few other cards (not related to the story) - I wanted to just casually sneak one in and see if it would grade.. It came back a 6!!!!!!! I was absolutely shocked. I made back my money for the ENTIRE lot plus grading fees PLUS an extra $400! I said what the heck, I'll send in another sub, this time a BIG one. I couldn't bring myself to submit everything, just some nicer stars and a few big names.

Low and behold...

4 1 26811025 N5: ALTERED STOCK 1933 GOUDEY 106 NAPOLEAN LAJOIE Card

I am floored. Absolutely floored. I am planning on calling PSA today to ask them to encapsulate the Lajoie. It looks to be a 4 or 5, but a funky corner makes me think it might've been altered. That's gotta be a $20,000 card! I mean, I'm bummed that it's altered, but I'm THRILLED that it's authentic!!!!!!!!!

Now, I KNOW that I am going to be kicking myself for posting this.. the seller has two very similar lots up right now (different sets, but HUGE names) - but it would take a miracle for you guys to find them! (so no more information out of me!) I just CANNOT believe it!!!! Happy freaking April 1st everyone! This is just WAY too good to be true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IF this is true, then this is one of the best stories I have heard in a LONG time. Based on the calendar I am VERY skeptical.

Scans would add some credibility to this story. Even if you post scans AND this is a great prank, you still have some nice cards!

I was thinking "holy crap that's incredibly fortunate. Congrats"! Then I remembered the date. If real, holy crap that's incredibly fortunate. Congrats!

    Congrats!
  • I'm going to say April Fools on this one. I'm sure if you would of gotten a 6 on that single card before submitting the others, we would of heard that story alone much sooner.

    Good try though image

The cert numbers seem to be missing on the system. I'm sure this was an oversight by PSA based on their reaction to the Goudey find. image

The last sentence was too over the top.

The cert #s give it away...PSA is only up to like 215 for the cert # sequence...still quite a story! LOL!
