What's your definition of Dirty Gold?

Here's mine:

Original skin in VF-XF with dirt in the devices... what's your definition? Can an AU/MS coin be Dirty?

II am sorry to differ, but I don't think that coin has its original skin. It has the telltale halo affect around all of the devices which says to me that the fields have been rubbed to remove the brownish toning.

This 1853-D gold dollar does have its original skin and I paid a premium for it because of that. It is PCGS graded AU-58.

I just looked at the image I posted... it looked a LOT different at 1/10th the size!

I think this one is pretty crusty. I purchased it (uncertified) in October 1982 and sent it to our host circa 1993. The photo is courtesy of BluCC.

Original surfaces and crust in the devices that arent remnants of being cleaned.

Unmolested gold coin surface that has acquired a natural, darkish patina, often accompanied by actual dirt in and around devices.

I do not have any examples to show.
