50/50 is better than 80/20 for a PSA 5. 50/50 & 50/50 on a PSA 8 are dead even,.....jesus christ you guys....some of you have been doing this alot longer than I have (looks at TNP).....don't you understand ANYTHING yet?

Really? Coulda fooled me. I have my settings at 100 threads per page, and this is the only one with Probstein's name in the title in the first five pages (first 500 threads for those of you that are math challenged image )

I am ashamed to admit that my memory has regressed to the point that I had to Google who Navin Johnson is.

I'm going to stand in the corner. Please let me know when I can come out.

And I feel sorry for you bobby. Better luck next time? And please let us know when anything is not selling at the proper amount. Or just put in a bid yourself to fix the problem I guess. I hate to see you like this.
Im sure someone like you with the knowledge you have will do very well with Ricks "following".

Was attempting to win some 52 Bowman small FB PSA 7s tonight with Probstein. Every card sold for 25 to 100 % higher than the VCP average. 2 weeks ago his 69 Nolan Ryan PSA 8 sold for $426, while another seller's sold 2 hours earlier for $263.

did they have 10 bids or 40 bids with the numbers?

    CANS! The answer is cans.

Phew. Glad that's over. I did find a TicTac, though, so the experience wasn't a total loss.
  • Theres simply just a lot of very stupid people in the hobby nowdays Bobby.

In all liklihood these are the same people who give "stupid money" for the cosmedic hype of the "Gem 10" grade.

People will pay a premium to buy from a seller they know and trust - plain and simple.

So I bid on a few 75 Topps auctions last night. Two with Probstein and one that was not Probstein. The PSA 9 Carter and Rice RCs that Probstein had went for the mid to high 400's, near twice SMR. The PSA 9 Nolan Ryan that a different seller had went for over $100 under SMR. I won the Ryan. I'm so pumped but wish I had a chance at the other two. A different PSA 9 Ryan last sold about a month ago for $2156 and I was the under bidder on that one. Pretty nice saving $600.

Rick sure gets a premium; I'm just not willing to pay it however.

But who? Stupid of Rick to shill because if he wins he still pays out his consignors, and is left holding the card...not to mention the relisting of the card would make this obvious.
Now - if you want to say that his consignors shill, that may be. But how can you reasonably control that if the cards from a certain consignor are not bid up by that consignor, and if they always get paid for? I am sure if Rick was left consistently holding cards from a specific consignor he would stop taking them as that would not be a good business practice to maintain. Also not sure how he should be reasonably expected to review bidders on the hundreds of items he may have up for auction at any given time.

Here is another question to ponder: If Probstein demands such a high premium (no matter how he gets it), why would anyone buy from him as opposed to another seller? With eBay buyer protection in place, it really takes away a decent amount of risk regarding fraud.
I'm building a 1968 and a 1970 Topps set. I have lots of 1970s and 1960s to offer in trade.
