<< <i>Too bad on the T/B centering on the Blauser. It is a pop 1. >>

I saw that but the card has no chance.

There seems to be some chipping on the edges on most cards including the Blauser.

Fortunately the edges on the Griffey Wathan and Redus looked good.

I sent the three off with my renewal 6 card voucher. Hoping for the best.

    Joe >>

I have seen my share of DS, and by my estimations you are in for a treat!

The best part of yesterday's mail was getting my 70s/80s quarter baseball card vending machine!! Does anyone remember these or have one of them?

Post a pic. please. My local card shop had one when I was a kid. How cool
it would be to actually own one!!

Nice scores on the Hornsby '76 cello and the Clemens rookie rack. Congrats!!
    Daniel
  • Love that rack with Clemens on top!! Also both Gretzsky's are nice pulls! Congrats!
  • My BBCE order finally arrived today. As always, everything packed nicely including my extras. So I finally got to the 1976 Topps packs and nothing on the first one but the second one said Athletics. Yes, REG-GIE!
    image
Edit to add: I missed it at first. I got a Clemens rookie on the back of one of my '85 racks. Now I'm juiced!!

Last Friday, as I was pulling in the driveway, I saw a box sitting in front of the front door. Very excited to see it and when I goto look at it, it's for my wife. image
Monday I get home from work and after a long day of work, I'm happy to see my box. Everything packed very well.

The 84 Donruss cards were very crisp and sharp, but a touch OC.
Thanks again for setting up the group rip. I appreciate the effort to be able to bring back the best part of my childhood.

<< <i>Let me start by saying that I have never been able to link up a scan to these boards.image

I posted earlier about this being my time for a pull. Heard the truck outside, grabbed the box, shot inside to open, just waiting to see that Aaron adorn the front of my cello. Open the box, toss my DS aside and my 2 1976 football and what do I see? Its not the Brewers. But in that same split second of disappointment a big smile awoke as I read the team name Mets. Tommy Terrific babyimage Not only that, but he looks nicely centered with just a slight tilt.

Not sure what to do about the scan. I am happy, especially considering I was only able to get 1 cello.

Thanks Mark and thanks Steve. >>

Looks like a carbon copy of my Seaver pack. Two Seaver packs in one box! I'll try to scan mine later this week.
  • Thats a pretty well centered card for 1976. Nice pack!

Has anyone else not received their packs? I always get it later than others but this one seems like it's taking much longer than usual!

That's what we pay for, for living in good old Southern California. Great weather and slow shipments coming from BBCE.

I did, however, receive my two DS packs today in Huntington Beach. Yes, I did open them...nothing special. 7 submittable cards, none are expensive low pop cards. The highlight was an Eddie Murray gem that will go to PSA. Good fun, though.

    Nice 76 pack with Seaver.

That 81 Yaz has great centering. Good pull

also received my package last night here in the So Cal Easy Bake Oven, along with another one containing food products and marked "Perishable".

fortunately, older baseball cards don't melt.

Got my one pack of DS, will leave them sealed for now. I also picked up a hobby box of 2001 Heritage and I'm on the fence whether to rip or save. Lastly, I added three '83T cellos to my order. Pulled a sharp Sandberg RC but centering won't get it any higher than an 8. Bummer, as the corners are 10s.

Thanks for putting this rip together and to Steve for the cool DS packaging!

Anyone open their 1985 racks and get a McGwire?
  • abcoltsfanabcoltsfan Posts: 802 ✭✭✭
I received my 2 DS packs today. Among the cards that I received was a Griffey! It looks great will be submitting that. If any one who opened there packs pulled any Cubs or Expos and are interested in parting with them let me know. Thanks again to Cincy for coordinating another MONSTER Break.

My two best (name wise) out of the 85 racks were Boggs and Mattingly.
  • anyone else getting a little concerned at how little Reed has been able to find this year on his buying trips?
Big Fan of: HOF Post War RC, Graded RCs
WTB: PSA 1 - PSA 3 Centered, High Eye Appeal 1950's Mantle
  • From the packs I got from group rip

1984 Donruss baseball - nothing to speak of best card was an off cut Alan Trammell
1983 Topps Football - ouch - several cards damaged best card off cut Billy Sims
1982 Topps Football pack 1 - nothing good but there were 2 Broncos Team leader cards and 2 Duriel Harris cards in the 1 pack
1982 Topps Football pack 2 - Ronnie Lott RC off cut and iffy top right corner but am happy with it
1980 Topps Football pack 1 - nothing good and majority of cards were off cut bad top to bottom
1980 Topps Football pack 2 - no names cards had same off cut top bottom problem and several had "snow" on them
1985 Topps Football pack 1 - Irving Fryer RC and Jim McMahon - nice cards but doubt they are gradeable
1979 Topps Basketball pack 1 - really nice Julius Irving / a slightly lesser nice Alex English / nice to look at Darryl Dawkins but it was the wax card and not sure I can get that off (can you tell I am a rookie at this)
1979 Topps Basketball pack 2 - nothing at all
1978 Topps Basketball pack 1 - off cut Bill Walton / Decent Doug Collins
1978 Topps Basketball pack 2 - some really nice commons that I will have to look closer at. If they aren't 10s they aren't worth grading
1978 Topps Basketball pack 3 - off cut Jabbar (also the wax card)
1978 Topps Basketball pack 4 - worst of the four, not much at all

All in all an enjoyable experience. Would love to hear some thoughts especially on the Julius Erving.

I'm not much of a basketball guy but I love these old basketball cards.

Anytime I hear Bill Walton speak I cringe and shiver, anytime I see his face (even on a card) I want to punch him. ...I like the rest of the cards though!

I know there appear to be issues with the surface but I assure you it is the CS 1 and top loader. It is a very nice card.

And another break with lotsa great cards. I find myself being partial to the black-bordered cards. I'm going to have to dig mine out of storage and go through them...

Well if your going to get triples those Yzermans are a great pull.

True. That worked in my favor this time. However, 2 of the Yzermans are very off center, while one of them looks very nice. The Gretzky's are kind of a dud because there is a lot of "noise" on the cards, and one them was a gum card. But I also pulled like 2 Brian Sutter (?) cards in one pack, which was very strange.

Otherwise I was generally happy with everything. The 1982 Donruss box reaped a good grouping of all the major stars and a nicely centered Ripken rookie which I think is worthy of a send-in. Most other cards were generally slightly off centered. Also the 1986 Fleer box I ripped had everyone except a Puckett. Most all cards were off center including the Canseco rookie. There were a few choice cards I liked, but not sure if they are worth sending in.

Grades just popped on my three Desert Shield cards I sent in.

As expected but thought the Griffey would also garner a 10.

I will take another look at it when it arrives home and probably send in again sometime.

    2 1 21270991 MINT 9 1991 TOPPS DESERT SHIELD 790 KEN GRIFFEY JR. Card
    3 1 21270992 GEM MINT 10 1991 TOPPS DESERT SHIELD 291 JOHN WATHAN Card
    4 1 21270993 GEM MINT 10 1991 TOPPS DESERT SHIELD 771 GARY REDUS Card
