Is there anything "fishy" with the large photos in this auction?

They seem a bit inconsistent with the smaller slabbed photos?

It looks like the seller "borrowed" them from this auction. But he didn't use HA's slab shots, oddly.

Very sweet coin. Now that you've alerted the world maybe the seller will get his reserve price.

Here's a tip. Do a cert look-up. See if PCGS has photos, or auctions have been linked. If you want to win it say nothing to anyone. Set your highest price snipe and forget about it.

Great type coin.

The fields are about as clean as they come for the grade.

And I agree: AU-55.

I would prefer a 53-D with a bit more character as this is a common date when it comes to D-Mint $5's. While technically I think this coin is under graded, a Dahlonega $5 should have a certain look in my opinion. This coin is uniform and consistent in color which doesn't get me excited.

Doug Winter has one listed an AU53 today on his page for comparison.

are you sure the seller even owns this coin? All the other coins they are selling are really cheap.

Thats like a seller selling some junky coins but has a 1895 proof morgan posted.

I just made this 1853-D $5 for a friend last month. The coin has been in his family (raw) for about 100 years. He finally wanted it slabbed to protect it.

I thought it was pretty original, not stripped like so many of these.

well, to asnswer someone's question, the reason I think for the bad slab photos was to prove ownership.

He stole the good closeups and provided poor slab shots that were not stolen.

probably. most likely. unless someone can find those bad slab shots on the web....

Although I guess it did break the now gone front-back rule.

Much more eye appeal. This coin has a 3 dimensional feel in 2 dimensional pictures

The Ebay coin looked flat.
