Agreed. And winning bidder had 71% bid history, too.

We all have the benefit of hind sight at this point but it is fascinating to look back on the past several years and see higher prices in many parts of the hobby.

What I find to be very interesting is some of the increases in cards like the 1975 Topps George Brett. This was a card that was stagnant for years and simply exploded.

I realize it was surprising to some that the wrestling cards I collect went up in value a great deal but those were in most ways undiscovered so there was really only one direction to go. The rise in unopened, high grade HOF's, low pop cards from the 70's and so on were very well known items and had lots of information in the marketplace on them. And great availability in some cases. To see a card like the 1975 Topps George Brett sit in the $700 range for years and move to the $2,000 range is much more impressive to me then seeing increases in areas where new discoveries and new information is made.

One thing is clear that the trading card market is very strong across the board right now. The 1976 Topps George Brett appreciated in the 36% range during the time frame of this thread and in reality it may have more to do with the stock market increasing a similar amount and asset prices in generally being pushed up.

Now the tough call will be predicting what is coming next.

  • I was checking out page one of this thread and hearing you guys talk about how there was an abundance of 70's unopened made me very emotional about the fact that i was not on the boards in '11 and '12 and i was wasting time courting my wife instead of compliling 70's unopened and raw cards...

    is that bad to say?

I thought perhaps the recent population "boom" from 10-14 in the PSA 9 in a short period of time might hold this card a little down, but I was completely wrong. A very strong price!
