Hey folks, found this in change, what's going on here?



I'm sure it's struck through grease but wondered if there is a tell tale sign that can confirm it.

Examine the reeding. Some type of striking anomoly is my guess but its odd that there does not appear to be a rim on the obverse?
I say striking anomoly because if the weakness in LIBERTY and the DATE were due to wear, I would expect an equal amount of wear on Washington's profile and queue.

...it's not a good idea to clean coins, that's a given, but you must NEVER dry a coin.
That is my guess too.

That suggests a marked coin from a comerical laundry mat.
Looks like it spent some time trapped in a dryer/washer.
