Hey folks, found this in change, what's going on here?

I'm sure it's struck through grease but wondered if there is a tell tale sign that can confirm it.

It's obvious that there is reeding on the coin so the dryer scenario is out.

Examine the reeding. Some type of striking anomoly is my guess but its odd that there does not appear to be a rim on the obverse?

I say striking anomoly because if the weakness in LIBERTY and the DATE were due to wear, I would expect an equal amount of wear on Washington's profile and queue.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Dryers usually tumble the coins... so I would expect more wear on the reverse..... ICBW...Cheers, RickO

...it's not a good idea to clean coins, that's a given, but you must NEVER dry a coin. image

I assume when he said it was hung up in a dryer, it was caught in a crack of the dryer and the obverse saw the tumbling action of the dryer while the reverse stayed stationary.

    That is my guess too.

That suggests a marked coin from a comerical laundry mat.
Looks like it spent some time trapped in a dryer/washer.

Obverse heavily buffed down. Then gun blued.

I'll try to get some better pics. My question is, if there was enough brushing to smooth the lettering, why not Washington's portrait?
