I have a few ugly ones , has anyone tried stripping the paint off ? Will acetone do the trick ?
I paint the occasional truck so I have lacquer thinner I can try too.
Who has tried it and how do they come out?

My daughter and I go to the shows she buy's all that she can (at a dicount mind you because of the paint about $1.00 under spot )
Comes home soaks them in pure acetone and within about 5 min. she has a mint looking SAE just like the
one I pay top dollar for

I figured it would work on the garden variety ones , I was a little nervous dropping this mess in , I thought i would make it uglier if only half of it came off.

I've see some of those colorized ASE's go for much more on eBay than the regular bars. She may want to do some research before taking the paint off to see if eBay would be a more profitable route.
Some are stickers, and some are painted. I've never seen one where acetone wouldn't work though, even if it takes a longer soak.
Once I picked up a heavily painted ASE that took an overnight soak, but it still came out looking great.
Be sure to cover your acetone container, as it can evaporate quickly. And use all the safety precautions, as it's volatile stuff.
I just did 2 that just had liberty painted on the front and the eagle on the back. It lifted right off in a sheet. One of them had a hideous milkspot on the reverse I wonder if they painted that one because it was ugly to begin with.
It makes me wonder if I should leave the Neil Armstrong one I posted above alone

How many would she need to clean to pay for the acetone and its proper disposal?
