<< <i>I'm curious to see if Holliday will start tonight. He was having some back spasms/stiffness that kept him out of #6. If he does, no doubt he will be roundly booed by the SF faithful... >>
According to lineups released by the teams, Holliday will starting in LF. However, Holliday was in such bad shape yesterday that he was at the hospital getting an MRI on his back instead of at the park during the game.
Seems like an iffy choice to start, unless the whole back-problem thing is a ruse.
So, has Holliday had back issues before?
<< <i>If he does, no doubt he will be roundly booed by the SF faithful. >>
I'm thinking that Beltran will still get booed louder. Holliday will win the "who gets booed louder" game if he does some damage.
<< <i>Edit to add... speaking of strike zones... what was your opinion of the zone last night? >>
The umpire was giving everything on the edges (and a little off the edge) to the pitchers. It helped Voggy, but it didn't matter for Carp. Carp's playing like a guy who had season-ending surgery a few months ago. Still, the Cards were swinging with hopes of a middle-of-the-plate mistake, and they got none.
Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Wow! I so did not see that coming. I don't think anybody saw a blowout coming. Most were thinking a 1-0 game if even that.
Detroit is well rested so hopefully the adrenaline will last through the next series.

2012 NLCS - Giants vs Cardinals, Game 7: THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT!!!
WOW. The Comeback Kids did it again. Down 0-2 in the NLDS, they won 3 straight to advance. Down 1-3 in the NLCS, they stormed ahead and won 3 straight to advance. The "Torture" this team introduced it's fans to in 2010 seems to have taken on a new form: maximizing the number of elimination games.
How about that Marco Scutaro! NLCS MVP!
I'm kinda shocked by how well the Giants pitching shut down the Cardinal hitting. From Zito onward, the Cards managed 1 run TOTAL in the final 3 games.
Next up, the Detroit Tigers, who are well rested and ready to go. The Giants pitching rotation is totally upside-down, with Voggy and Cain having been used in these past two games. This could actually be pretty bad, but time will tell. Zito, Bumgarner, and Lincecum are fully rested for the first 2 games. Cain and Voggy won't be rested until the series moves to Detroit, and they're a lot different on the road, both with an era of a full run (or more) higher than at home.
Anyways, we'll see. Until then, the Giants have won their 2nd NL Pennant in 3 years.
gooo tigers ...i think this series might be closer than we think...the giants have a good ball club...the tigers and giants are riding high...good luck to both lets just see a great series
That broken-bat double that Pence hit was a total freak of nature. It hit the bat an extra 2 times after the initial contact, adding an evil spin to it that totally screwed up Kozma.
In the 8th inning during the Giants pitching change, Molina was standing at 2nd chatting with Scutaro. Molina looked annoyed, and was using a lot of hand gestures. Scutaro was just nodding his head with a sympathetic look on his face. I wonder what they were talking about. I could imagine:
Molina: WTF, I came to play, the rest of these guys are sleeping! Scutaro: I've busted my ass on losing efforts for my whole career. I understand. Molina: I mean, I'm 4-4, I'm seeing the ball really good! Scutaro: Yeah. Molina: So I tell the guys "Come on, wait for your pitch, just don't go up hacking!" Scutaro: Uh huh. Molina: And what do they do? They hack away. Scutaro: Yup. Molina: Am I the only guy in red who came to freaking play today? Scutaro: Maybe next time, bro. Molina: F**k. Now it's raining.
I usually don't listen to radio "sports talk" but had to this morning on my drive in to work.
It was mentioned that Crawford's catch in the second inning was a pivotal point that may have been lost in the Pence's "loose chicken" (see below) triple-batt hit.
For the KNBR crowd who muted FOX...does Krukow seem to come up with a new lingo-baseball phrase each game? Last night I heard "Don't show up naked at the front door" or something to that effect. I can't remember what he was relating too, right now. I wish there was a diary or list. Some are old school baseball but some are just crazy funny.
Now I gotta get me one of those 5k frame/second video cameras. Any good stills on the 'net??
This time around the media will be stacked against the Giants. Detroit is the feel good story of a city that's been down on its luck but a championship could give its residents something to be less gloomy about (it is an election year). Right or wrong, at the same time the Giants being two years removed from a championship are in the minds of many becoming the Yankees of the West Coast and representing "Pelosi land". The media will be biased against us, more so than ever before.
Last year Zito pitched against the Tigers in an interleague series. I recall he had a pretty good outing. I'm guessing except for some ex NL guys like Prince Fielder, Zito's pitching is fairly unfamiliar to most of the Tigers lineup. I guess the same could be said about Verlander.
The Giants need to resist thinking of Verlander the same way the media does: as a guy that's superhuman and unbeatable. Take one look at his season numbers and while he's one of the best pitchers in baseball today he is still hittable and beatable.

This was no different than in 2010. In the NLCS, announcers were already looking at the Phillies/Rangers matchups for the World Series before the NLCS was even over. Then, after the Giants beat them, all we heard was 'The Rangers Cliff Lee this, The Rangers Cliff Lee that'. The reality? Lincecum ate him for lunch, along with the rest of the Giants. AGAIN, I love that the Giants are in the underdog role. And, like the Reds and Cardinals this year, I'll bet Detroit thinks this series belongs to them.
If the media indeed thinks of SF as Pelosi Land, then given the MSM's usual political bias SF should be touted by them as a lock to win. They love Nancy.

Lets scrap the political talk please. I want to keep my baseball FAR AWAY from that filth.

<< <i>So, which team do you think the Tigers are rooting for? >>
I would think STL but considering how they swept the Yanks & made it look easy, they might not care...

The Crawford catch was a punch that left them dazed. The bottom of the 3rd was the knockout punch.

Never, ever underestimate the underdog!
In Detroit: 15 starts, 1.65 era, 0.942 whip, .187/.251/.286 against.
On the road: 18 starts, 3.57 era, 1.164 whip, .243/.287/.370 against.
