Sorry to disappoint...not a troll, just tired of Giants fans who whine about Holliday/Scutaro instead of being glad they won the game. I suppose the suggestion you made about "throwing at Holliday's gassed up head" was just good natured fun...
My mistake. You weren't the one who said that. Apologies. At any rate I look forward to a good series....but I have concerns about retaliation for the slide incident.
Cain's all messed up. 4 pitches into the game, and he's got a HBP and fell off the mound throwing a pitch to Beltran. Fortunately the 6th pitch was a double play grounder.
Edit to add:
9 pitches to end the inning. Outside of the 2nd and 4th pitches of the game for Matt, good beginning for his day.
<< <i> I have concerns about retaliation for the slide incident. >>
you should be used to it by now as a Cardinal fan, shouldn't you? What with the Cardinals having a 72 total edge in bean balls thrown as any other Major League team since LaRussa's tenure. And considering Holliday has shown a pattern of these types of slides he'll get his. Eventually. Even if it has to wait until next year. Personally I'm pulling for the Giants to take a 8-0 lead into the 7th and Cain reintroduces the David Wright incident on Holliday. Then we'll get to witness the always enjoyable Chris Carpenter first out of the dugout to rush the mound where he'll, as always, push and shove and run his gob and fail to throw a punch. See Carpenter is a noted tough guy in Jorts Nation because he once played hockey 20 years ago at a level that didn't involve fighting or body checking.

2012 NLCS - Giants (1) vs Cardinals (2), Game 3: Giants stranded all night long.
Cain got Cain'd again. What else is new?
So, MadBum has been officially demoted from the playoff rotation. Lincecum goes for Game 4, Zito goes for Game 5. Bum will probably be available out of the pen though.
Yeah, Zito facing a team full of powerful righties. That'll go over well.
Still, it won't matter how good Lincecum or Zito do if the offense can't get going.
Cards have Adam Wainwright going tomorrow. Vs the Nats, he threw 5.2 innings of 1 run ball in game 1, but then got ganked for 6 runs on 3 homers in 2.1 ip in Game 5.
I kinda doubt the Giants can deliver the same sort of ganking that the Nats can.
Game 5 will probably be Lynn again. Lynn crashed his car in game 1, but Bumgarner's car actually caught fire and blew up.
Well, if the Giants can avoid getting swept in StL, they can bring the series back to SF for Voggy in Game 6 and Cain in Game 7.
For what it's worth, (according to folks who were there), the atmosphere in the Giants' clubhouse isn't one of "doom and gloom" but of a dumbfounded "how'd we let that one get away?"
Then again, "doom and gloom" is exactly what settled in after game 2 of the NLDS and we saw what the Giants did with that, they flipped it around.
Giants acknowledge that they beat themselves in this game. Good, they know what the problem was. They didn't get pounded by another team, they simply failed to execute. Now, what they do with that information is the question.
Can Timmy the Starter continue what Timmy the Long-Reliever began? Can the Zito continue to be an offensive spark (!?!?) for the Giants?
the Cards shouldn't even be here, blah blah blah.....they've been rewriting history for the past two postseasons, while every fan of every other team continues to scratch their heads in disbelief.
what is it about these freekin guys? Pujols walks, they shrug.
the Giant Ants look like a loose bunch of kids in the dugout, regardless of the score. just bouncing around.
reminds me of a Pony League playoff game when i assisted coaching my son's team several years ago. we were the bouncy guys, with lots of smiles and fist bumps and the rival team was a bunch of scruffy kids with short batting strokes and a pitcher who stood about 4 foot 2 and threw junk.

Go Cards! Sorry, but I live in Northern California and it would hurt to lose to the Giants. Hoping for a good game.

One step forward, two steps back. I'm not sure which team has a crappier offensive, the Niners or Giants. And when we thought Timmy was back all of the sudden Tim Lincecrap shows up.
Considering that Barry Zito starts tomorrow if the Giants don't score 12 runs in the first two innings (they won't but that's obvious) this series is over and Fox Sports craps their pants more after having to stomach another non coast World Series.

I hope all the right and left coasters won't mind if I say that I'd love it if that happened. Plus it'll be just that much sweeter that the Jankees won't be in the big show...
I'm hoping we can close it out tonight at home, otherwise I'll get very nervous...a momentum swing and going back to SF for 2 games could spell big trouble.
Wearing my Giants jersey to work today. I also arranged my Giants cards in order of position for tonight's game, so we'll see if all my superstitious crap makes any difference.
Zito flat out owned us tonight, plus the LOB monster hit us early. Dang it... now we have to go to SF an face an energized Giant team with a history of coming back from adversity...
2012 NLCS - Giants (2) vs Cardinals (3), Game 5: Barry Zito saves the day!
Wow. Just.... wow. For the first time in his Giants career, he pitched like a man truly worthy of the contract the Giants gave him. During his time in SF, he's been the goat, the "oh crap, Zito's pitching", he's been the polar oposite of young stud Tim Lincecum who entered the league with a massive bang. Now, in 2012, it's Zito who's the show-stopper and Lincecum who's the "oh crap, Lincecum's pitching" guy.
I don't think I ever thought I'd see the day when Zito would outperform Lincecum while both were in Giants jerseys.
Starting on August 7th, when Barry Zito pitched against Lance Lynn in StL, the Giants have been 13-0 in the last 13 games started by Barry Zito.
The older players on the team have lead the way (Scutaro, Vogelsong, Zito). Now, the series moves to SF and into the capable hands of Ryan Vogelsong.
Now, moving to SF may not be an "advantage", so to speak. Giants have not been sharp at home. 23-20 (counting the post-season) since the AS Break.
The Giants are 11-5 at home behind Vogelsong, and 10-6 behind Cain.
Hopefully the Giants can get past Carpenter again.
This team confuses me. When everybody had high hopes for Lincecum he lays the biggest egg in the Midwest. When everybody expected Game 5 to be the team's season finale Barry Zito pitches one of the best games of his career. I don't know if there's a momentum shift but at least the series lives on for another game while Detroit rests up their players.

2012 NLCS - Giants (2) vs Cardinals (3), Game 6: Vogelsong tries to save the day vs Carpenter.
Backs ever against the wall, the Giants hand the ball to Vogelsong to save the season. He did it in the NLDS, and he's going to have to try and do it in the NLCS as well.
Giants roughed up Carpenter in Game 2, but Carpenter's a proven vet with a long post-season pedigree, so if both pitchers are on their game, this will be a nail-biter. If not, then who knows.
Giants are 1-3 at AT&T Park during the post-season so far (vs 4-2 on the road). Hopefully they'll figure out how to locate the advantage in playing in front of the home crowd.
Win, and we play another game. Lose, and the season's over.
I will be at Game 6 this afternoon, pretty excited about it. We will see.........

2012 NLCS - Giants (3) vs Cardinals (3), Game 6: Seven strong for Vogelsong! Giants force Game 7!
Great win for the Giants tonight, but the Cards sure helped with sloppy defense and a shadow version of Chris Carpenter on the hill.
All today's victory does is build "momentum" if you believe in that sort of stuff, stave off elimination, and force a winner-take-all Game 7.
Game 7. Matt Cain, on the mound, in AT&T Park. Cainer's the ace, and Lohse is theirs. This has the makings of a pitching duel, if both guys are on their game.

Well, if the Redbirds show the same offense we've seen the last 2 games, you Giants fans might as well order those WS tix now. I hope it's at least competitive. Geez. This series should have ended in STL....but someone forgot to tell the Card hitters that.
Boch says that MadBum and the coaching staff discovered a "major flaw" in Bumgarner's mechanics and made a correction. After throwing a few bullpen sessions, they're confident that it's fixed.
Hopefully Cain will make it unnecessary to tap a starting pitcher for relief innings.
2012 NLCS - Giants vs Cardinals, Game 7: Cain vs Lohse. The final battle for the NL.
Today's Game 7 lineup, via my Giants rookie card collection:
WIN TODAY!
A few notes on today's game...
Lohse has been a solid pitcher all year. His road splits are a little worse than his home though.. home: 2.79 era, 1.083 whip, .226/.270/.331 against road: 3.41 era, 1.117 whip, .251/.279/.405 against
Cain: home: 2.03 era, 0.904 whip, .207/.244/.304 against road: 3.56 era, 1.178 whip, .238/.302/.416 against
The first time the Giants saw Lohse this year was in game 3 of this series. 10/17 at StL = 5.2 ip, 7 hits, 1 run. WIN.
Lohse walked 5 in Game 3, and the Giants couldn't cash anything in. Gary Darling's known to be an umpire with a wide strikezone, so that might keep walks to a minimum tonight.
This SHOULD be a close game.
I may not have any fingernails left before the first pitch tonight!
I'm curious to see if Holliday will start tonight. He was having some back spasms/stiffness that kept him out of #6. If he does, no doubt he will be roundly booed by the SF faithful...
Edit to add... speaking of strike zones... what was your opinion of the zone last night?

9 pitches to end the inning. Outside of the 2nd and 4th pitches of the game for Matt, good beginning for his day.

Top: Lohse works a little harder, 25 pitches to get through 5-9, with a couple of walks and a strikeout. Dude looks like he can do this all day long.
Bottom: Cain gives up his first hit, but only has to spend 11 bullets to get through 4-7. Ground out, base hit, fly out, pop out.
Ok, this inning-by-inning update is preventing me from getting any work done at work, so I'll cut it out.
