Had this email in my inbox this morning.

Dear lindedad,

I recently received a fifty dollar prepaid visa card which is on my ebay/paypal account.
I am quite interested in your nice coin & If I purchase your coin can you send me two seperate invoices one for fifty dollars so I can use the prepaid visa card and one for the balance. If there is extra work on your part I would be glad to pay you. I just can not find and coin I would like to have more than a quality " S " walker.

Must admit I am a sweepstakes junkie and win those cards all the time. But I also thought if you have 50 dollars sitting in your paypal account and charge 100 out they take that fifty first than the other 50 from his bank account? So I don"t understand his need for two invoices. Good luck image

Doesn't make sense. Ebay/Paypal wouldn't have a way to link/integrate a prepay visa card to an auction? And he'd be willing to compensate you for generating seperate invoices?

    Nah, pass.

I am hard pressed to understand why he couldn't just pay you straight up, and use the prepaid-visa-on-his-paypal-account money for some other expense.

  • Careful that he doesnt try to claim some type of ownership by paying only $50 on one invoice.

    I wouldn't do it.

He can pay all kinds of ways using Paypal.

Don't do it. When you send an invoice it combines the order for any of your actions that the bidder won. He'll get a $50 invoice and be able to pay for it all if I'm thinking correctly. I would suggest you tell you are unable to send various invoices and the prepaid card can be easily used someplace else.

The invoice is for the amount owed. If he can fulfill payment on that invoice with a combination of paypal and something else, there shouldn't be a problem. You don't have to ship until the invoice is paid.

But, asking for two invoices on a larger amount sounds like a way to confuse how much the actual amount should be for the item he bought. If you issue two invoices, what if he pays one and then decides to use feedback extortion for an invoice that he paid (ignoring the fact that he still owes the balance for the item)? It would take you more effort than it's worth to convince ebay and paypal that you aren't the bad guy, if indeed you could even convince them.

But something is still fishy. He can pay the whole amount through paypal, can't he? He has to have a bank account backing up his paypal line of credit, does he not?

I'd say it sounds like a scam. Two invoices just so he can use a $50 prepaid VISA? He pays you with that VISA, and never remits the remaining balance, and if you file an INPF with eBay/PayPal, he claims you agreed to sell it for $50.

    I'd avoid this.

You mean what should be your reply? image

    Dear XXX,

Since your prepaid visa card is already on your eBay / PayPal account, all you need in the one invoice for the total amount. When you pay for the item, just use the prepaid card number first and PayPal will ask what other method you want to use for the balance.

I hope you enjoy the coin,

    Sincerely,

I replied several hours ago just seeing who else is paranoid in the world of eBay/PayPal.image

    My reply....
    Good morning.
Thanks for the interest in my coin but I have no idea of how to do that. Invoicing is through eBay and they do not give me a way to make it into partial payments.
    Syl.

And since it was in regard a BIN item and the listing calls for instant payment I was not lying in my response.
Yes you send them a invoice for fifty dollars and they only pay that and ignore the second for the balance then in a couple of days they do a charge back on the sale saying the item has not been received and eBay takes the total amount back out of your PayPal account and gives it to the scammer.
