Finished my Carson City GSA set

nagsnags Posts: 821 ✭✭✭✭
Just finished up the set, with a few too many extra. I plan on starting to work on the non-CC hard pack offerings while very slowing piecing together my type set. Sorry for the bad pics.

IMO - the 1890-CC is the toughest to find nice in GSA

The 89-CC / 92-CC / and 93-CC were all "single" unc coins placed in GSA CC Black Holders for the purposes of the GSA "roadshow" ONLY. Those dates were not represented in Unc in the hoard.

The 89-CC came on the market over 10 years ago and sold for somewhere in the $30-40k range. The 92-CC and 93-CC have not surfaced since the roadshow display was done in the 1970's.

Thanks - I'll gotten a lot of joy in putting it together.

I'm not sure as to my next goal. Longer term I'd like to build a nice type set, but that is kind of a side project as something catches my eye. As my main attraction to the hobby is the history, one of the ideas I was kicking around was to gather an individual coin from many hoards, famous collections... as sort of a pedigee set. I may also try to get the remaining CC morgans (1889, 1892, 1893) to complete that set. If I do that I'd like to go for mint state to stay consistent, but I'm not sure I can justify the price for a 1889. I guess I'll just keep my eyes and mind open and see what comes along.

I'd say about a year. I had received a few from a relative (included the 1879) awhile back and that was what got me intersted in the hobby. None of the ones I received were graded (they had been sitting in a box in a closet since at least 1976) so I wanted to put together an ungraded set. I agree that the hardest to find in decent condition, in the orignal holder, and not graded, was the 1890. I purchased the 1890 last week. I was considering buying a graded 1890 and 1891 and removing the NGC label.

I'd be curious as to how many 1879, 1890, and 1891 still remain in the original holders. I suppose there is no way to know at this point.

So are you excited that you finished the set or are you depressed? Kind of a double edged sword.
